In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

Today I just found out that "Dari Sabang Sampai Merauke" plagiarized Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture. Oh, Indonesia.

Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

Nobody talks about it, but this is actually the way Donald Trump is most like Adolf Hitler. It’s not his racism or his will to power or his disrespect of democracy.

It’s his ability to convince a large group of people he’s a character with magic powers.
This explanation is ridiculous yet likely true. Millions of people did not conceptualize Trump the way we do (e.g., "bad person who did a bad job and wants to do bad things like X, Y, Z") but rather as a TV character, an avatar of prosperity who would somehow bless them economically.
"... the best explanation for 2025 is that voters didn’t know what they were getting with Trump 2.0 last November, but now they do — and they don’t like it."

(Almost) not opening social media the last weekend, it was great. Went to a nice Chinese place then watched the Chainsaw Man movie on Saturday. Had pistachio pancake and went to a vinyl market event on Sunday - bought Joni Mitchell and Deftones' LPs.

I just cross checked ChatGPT's rewrite on Grammarly and the latter found grammatical error. Meanwhile tech bros are touting that AGI is near.

When I asked both Claude and ChatGPT whether they "think" AGI is near, both didn't think that it's the case.

per @brunodias.bsky.social: But for that 'buffet' style of social media to actually exist, there has to be a damn buffet! Right now there's a sad salad bar with maybe two or three niche options, one large bowl of soup that 99% of diners are eating from, and one smaller bowl of much more niche soup.
Bluesky wasn't very good in relaying or providing news about recent protests in Indonesia despite fairly big Indonesian user base + active efforts from existing users to cross posts info from various sources

they were overshadowed with whatever happened in the US

It’s a very US-centric app and news from the Middle East or Asia either you need to specifically look for or get moderated into oblivion due to the fact that it’s considered too violent. Which I can understand but I also find ICE raids violent and those don’t get censored.

These are actions that will affect Bluesky’s future. You gained a following because this place offered a safe haven for many oppressed minorities after Twitter went to hell. You need to be more honest with your users, and yourself. You know what you are doing, and you know it’s not right. /6
