He's sweating and covered in hickeys and more extensive bruising around his throat, his hair is matted, the dark circles around his eyes are a little more pronounced than usual, and his arms are shaking. Gus' fingers are pressing into Hawthorne's cheek to stop him from turning his face away; he doesn't seem to need very much force to accomplish it.
