I have an old 2-in-1 computer that was stuck in tablet mode, disabling its keyboard. Turns out it was because it was sitting on top of another 2-in-1 laptop.
I presume there's some sort of sensor (or magnet?) that triggers a hardware switch and the other computer's proximity caused interference.
