Hugs to all the survivors of narcissist or like parents, who get to watch as someone like their abuser is rewarded and celebrated. I didn't admit how hard T's presidency was because of this until he lost last time, & frankly am still processing that. Now this? I have no words.

This is your seasonal reminder to put a mask on or, at the bare minimum, a scarf. Cold noses lead to a weakened immune system. That means Cold Nose = Getting Sick.

Cover up. Stay warm. Stay healthy!

gorgeous
Check out this pincushion protea I found growing on the other side of the lake! It almost looks like something microscopic you'd find growing IN the lake.

The 2026 calendar is looking great and I'm excited to share, but had to take a time out to photograph this beaut first.

PSA: If you're going to someone's house - esp if you're picking up a neighbor's key - use the doorbell! a knock on a storm door is barely audible inside a house, let alone a 2-story house. a doorbell is much louder.

This is interesting — a recent study of mode share (the % share of transportation trips by car, transit, walking, biking etc) relative to city size and income levels in almost 800 cities in 61 countries. Interesting results. HT @davidzipper.bsky.social

I've somehow gotten onto the republican senate committee email list. 4 emails already today, and it is only noon! and their emails are almost 100% text, and overall quite old school looking.

This is a good game. I will add:
- a cashmere sweater, whose pilling I removed with excessive vigour
- the approval of several men, whose arguments‘ weaknesses I noted aloud
- my child’s happiness, every time I ask him to unload the dishwasher
Things I, a woman, have ruined, a partial list:
- the frosting of a cake when I used too many crushed peppermint candies & it came out bright pink instead of classy white & frothy
- many conversations that were nice and comfortable until I spoke up
- a pair of wool socks that I washed in hot water

Great story. the birds help cultivate the soil, eat "weedy" rice, provide fertilizer. win for the birds, win for this farmer.

It is a shame that the weedy rice is rejected - it is probably nutritious! Lately I've been mixing up various rice varieties so I'm not just eating white jasmine.

Did you know there's a category of affliction called a "Neglected Tropical Disease"? Makes one shudder to think of what such a disease might be capable of if left neglected. Fortunately, the WHO has paid attention to them: the number of people needing treatment for NTDs has fallen by 32% since 2010
