I had a really cool conversation with a translator today about how the concept of "heaven" might be different between North America and China. So shout out to translators who not only translate but provide insight into culture!

Any comic/literary folks who know Mandarin want to help out with a little translation? Just a few short sentences from English to Mandarin (paid and credited)

Wish I could be at #CanCon2025 this weekend, but I've got too much other stuff to do. But if you're there, you should check out the panels with @manahil.bsky.social, @cloviseditorial.bsky.social, and any of the @augursociety.bsky.social folks (that's what I'd be doing)

ADHDers have been finishing homework at the last minute long before GenAI came around
I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

Proofreading comics today and couldn't figure out why the art looked even better than I remembered, despite the only change being added text. It took me embarrassingly long to realize it's just because I got a new monitor 😆

I think I might like to read more on the history of comics. Anyone have book recommendations?

One of my fave short stories I've read in the last year(ish)!
Congrats to the finalists!!

We’re so pleased to see ‘And When She Shatters’ by @kercoby.bsky.social from Issue 4 in the TOC 😍
I need a timeline cleanse. How about a table of contents announcement! That’s right—despite the world being on fire, it’s time to reveal the TOC for Year’s Best Canadian F&SF Volume 3! It was VERY hard to narrow the list down but it's all killer, no filler. The book launches October 14. Enjoy! 1/2

Cool things are coming for #PitofEden! @therovercomics.bsky.social is nailing the art on this one
Even better with a bit of contrast.

Coming soon.

Inked pages are starting to come in for #PitOfEden, and there's such great style variety. Love to see it!

Gonna be riding the high of finding the exact dishwasher we'd planned to order on major sale at a random appliance store for a while. Yay no more hand washing!

Once again, I'm baffled by the passage of time. Apparently, I haven't published any of my own writing (except for blog posts on my own sites) since 2023. I know I've been focused on my editing career and revising my manuscript, so it's not like I'm not doing writing-related things, but damn...

this iconic advertising copywriter named Kathy Hepinstall Parks died over the weekend and I wanted to share something from her website I thought Bluesky would like

The problem with not using InDesign very often is that every time I do open it, everything has changed

I am fascinated by the differences between comic artists' processes. Some don't thumbnail, some skip pencils, some do multiple rounds of both before inking. And I get to see it all!

I got some of those souper cube things. It's probably overly optimistic to think these will solve all my meal prep troubles, right?

I want to organize stuff in our house. I need to do work. So of course this means I'm stuck just staring at my screen telling myself to work.
At least the cat is keeping me company...

Book mail was waiting for me when I got home from my trip. Thanks @adamsantangelo.bsky.social! So great to see all your hard work come to fruition 🎉

Not sure I'm getting over the awkwardness of interviewing people for research purposes, but I've done several now, so project progress is being made

It's such a bummer to see hard working writers and creators repeatedly lose platforms that were previously helping them get their work out to the world

Anyone have tips for collecting oral histories/interviewing people for research purposes? I have five days before I depart for a trip during which I'll be researching for a comic project, and while I'm pretty comfortable with reading-based research, my goal is to actually talk to people
