PhD candidate. I rant about John Calvin a lot.
Posted about these gorgeous limited run posters that @lapubliclibrary.bsky.social had made for their centennial, and a dear friend sent me one out of the blue.

To be known is to be loved. 💗

I am going to be so mad if an iron supplement and a midday Celsius were all it takes to get me out of Seasonal Depression Barbie Mode.

Feels like an appropriate time to keep this wisdom from LeGuin at the top of our minds: “We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable — but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.”

THIS. Celebrating wins is a part of offering a better story to folks. We need to keep declaring good and keep declaring it loudly. The work is always there. We celebrate and use that joy to keep fighting.
It's weird how after every good thing/gain (even if we don't call it a victory) people circle up to insist we shouldn't celebrate. Celebrating is not how people give up, in my experience; believing we can't win, never win, and have no power is (with a side of joylessness).
I don't keep doomers in my feed but since apparently some folks do: "celebrate each and every win, loudly" is Organizing 101

“When you fit the mold you were made for, you can let questions go like so many breaths, and they don’t multiply, don’t grow barbed. Your life goes by in a normal fashion, a choice and its expected outcome coupled seamlessly, ordered from a predetermined menu.” -Talia Levin

There were six or seven agents, trying to harm a man who looks unarmed and still they murdered him in broad daylight. These ICE agents are venal, incompetent, cowardly and this type of execution will keep on happening because they are an unchecked paramilitary force of scared men who crave power.

ICE murdered a nurse today
Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now

Got to attend an inspiring symposium at @jamuseum.bsky.social today w/ @iwriteok.bsky.social, @lataco.bsky.social, Viet Nguyen, & Angelica Salas among others. Grateful to hear other folks also calling out for better stories to tell & hope to share—without vision, both the people & movements perish.
