Ex-Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura: “We’re a 3rd world country now. I know. I’ve been to ‘em. I spent 17 months in SE Asia while the draft dodger was playing golf… that’s what happens in a dictatorship. In comes the military. That’s what’s happening here.” 🇺🇸

I keep posting this quote from Le temps des salauds: Comment le fascisme devient reel, by Hugues Jallon, but it's true.

"Fascism? It begins with madmen, is made real thanks to bastards, and carries on because of morons." (My translation)

@ross-greer.bsky.social Well done for an interesting and well-balanced interview on BBC Radio 4, and for keeping your calm in spite of Nick Robinson's red-faced spittle-flecked anger over your refusal to rise to the bait about transgender issues. He really is a very unpleasant man.

@eurostarjustin.bsky.social Someone on FB has posted that a 15yr old will be travelling solo from London to Paris. Is there an 'unaccompanied minors' system to make sure they get to their destination safely and without getting lost, and who should they contact? Thanks.

How nice to see Lesley Sharp, a 65yo actress, who doesn't look unnervingly like a botoxed, stretched, boiled egg, but looks like herself - and as a result is so much more believable in every role. Such a refreshing change!! 👏 👏 👏

Apparently, if I want to listen again to James Dyson guest-editing the Today programme I can get it via their link on X. Nope, and nope.

We are now thoroughly in the agonal gasps of 2025.

Would anyone like to join me in asking this year to politely take its things and fuck straight off?

A final long read for 2025, charting how we got used to cruelty, incompetence and farce - and how 2026 will need us all to be much noisier.

This: In the same week that Vance expressed concern that France and the United Kingdom had nuclear weapons, he said Denmark was not a very good ally to the US. It is shameful.

Galaxy Quest - a perfect movie, just a wonderful love letter to actors, sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and to fandom - really deserves a proper physical release with decent extras. Think Weaver's right that releasing a R-rated cut would be fun, too.

Sigourney Weaver reflected on cult classic Galaxy Quest and how she wishes the sci-fi satire had released an R-rated director's cut.

Sadness arrives uninvited. Joy demands more—it requires us to search, to kindle, to protect the flame against every wind. When we choose joy despite everything that argues against it, we don't just save ourselves—we illuminate the way for everyone around us.

Have you ever woken up in the morning with a word in your brain that you had to go and check the meaning of? Today's mot du jour was "pelagic". No, me neither. Some fish apparently swim deep in the subconscious.

@anthonyhorowitz.com I heard James O'Brien today talking about authors he has binge-read, and that's where I am at the moment with your audio books and TV series. Missed Collision 1st time round but have just watched it and really enjoyed it. 🧵

Asked ChatGPT to plan a driving route for a holiday I'm planning next year. I tried to follow the instructions on an old paper road atlas. Mad as a box of frogs. I know car GPS sometimes chooses odd routes, but this did a bizarre figure of 8 & claimed a road north of a city was south of it.

#BBCR4 Oh why, oh, why, oh why, BBC? The Prayer slot between farming and Today. I'm not in the least religious but some of the speakers are philosophically challenging. However recently we've had giggly, happy-clappy young Jesus women telling us everything is simply wonderful. Please stop it!
