Former I.T. analyst. Language teacher. Proud European. From the north west of one country, now resident of the south east of another.
All in all, you're just another chick with a haul.

Is that the place where you can get salmonella sandwiches and botulism in a bun, or am I thinking of somewhere else?

Alternatively, Arkell vs Pressdram.

🧵Gone are the days of the Quaker factory owner who had a sense of social responsibility (though there were precious few of them!). If they can't exploit workers in the UK they'll find a country where they can, and f* the sons & daurs of the town, my own sons & daurs excepted, of course.

And of course, the point of Remembrance Day is to remember all those who died in wars, not to glorify the victors. But he's the man who talks about POWs as 'losers' and mocks the disabled, yet avoided his national service by apparently inventing bone spurs, so we can expect little else from him.

Funny, isn't it, how inadequate men (and often the women that admire them) use religion to impose control over women, usually first by removing their financial independence, then their bodily autonomy and ultimately by confining them to the home and even silencing their words.

I must have been reading the wrong Hellenic history, as these lads don't give the impression of being very Spartan-like to me. Maybe being sent to Essex is the Spartan equivalent of being sent to Coventry?

The people of Lancashire witnessed black soldiers being mistreated during WW2. The far right loves to stir up racial tensions, but back then the white English villagers sided more with the black squaddies than with their racist white officers.

He has taken a wrecking ball to American democracy, and a literal wrecking ball to the building which symbolises it. And it doesn't look like he's even going to pay the man who did the wrecking for him. As for the building, I'm sure he'll find some MAGA schmuck to do it, and not get paid.

Same in the UK for people on in-work benefits. Then they wonder why there aren't any youth clubs etc. any more. They used to be run by people in their 'spare time' after work.

💯 agree re chasing entertainment ratings over providing in-depth analysis of news. Couldn't believe how much coverage they gave on Today etc. to the TV show Traitors. Also agree re economic illiteracy. We need more & better communicators & no more "I can't do maths" in high places.

There's a gal called Molly B Denum who knows. She's probably related to P.T. Barnum, or maybe not.

About 25 yrs ago I went to visit colleagues in North Carolina - reasonably intelligent people, late 20s & early 30s. It seemed they thought the island of Ireland shared a land border with Britain, England still had a standing army in the Republic, & Britain shared a land border with France.

This is what worries me about robotics and AI. They will eventually replace humans in almost every sphere of trade and industry, but the control will be in the hands of these neo-feudalists, who are unlikely to want to provide free food and shelter for the rest of humanity. So what then?

I think that's what global politics is now. It's not about countries or governments but about loose alliances of the uber-rich.

SM & CU are an important 1st step and need to happen to protect British business. I disagree there are "no votes in it". Starmer hasn't explained why he won't countenance it. I can only assume it's McSweeney, who I think is a malign influence.

People talk as if all that has to happen is the UK says "Yes, we want back in now" and the EU will say "Sign here!" Putting aside all the R-wing stuff in Europe, they won't contemplate a rejoin while there're so many anti voices in the UK who could disrupt things again.
