Cheers to everyone who marched today in big cities, small towns, blue country and red country. Keep bringing the energy. There's strength in numbers, and greater numbers in diversity than hegemony. Hold today close, remember you're not alone, and never let them steal your joy.

Seattle friends! Come to the book launch for Intemperance on October 14, at Elliott Bay Book Company! I’ll be in conversation with these two brilliant authors, who have some irreverent questions planned for me. And there will be an Intemperance-shaped cake because the protagonist loves cake. Ahem.❤️

the secret is that your poems get better because you had/have to keep working

and success is a spirit & craft blunter

The Jaipur Literature Festival is one of the most famous in the world. This isn’t it, but rather the International version that appears in different US cities. I’m glad to be back in one of my favorite cities, Seattle, in conversation with legend Shawn Wong.

Look at this graph.

The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened.

This is why we must build back union power.

Friends, I wrote a piece on poet Laura Gilpin, who died of glioblastoma in 2006.

She is best known for “The Two-Headed Calf.”

With gratitude to the Poetry Foundation for allowing me to try to restore this remarkable healthcare practitioner/poet’s legacy.

Helen of Troy, 1993: Poems
Maria Zoccola

Formally inventive, funny, and fierce, this collection reimagines Helen of Troy as a 90’s housewife stuck in Southern suburbia. Finally, Helen of Troy speaks! —and her restlessness is real. This is a fast-paced collection that reads like a novel.

At a GOP town hall last night, heckling from constituents was apparently too much to handle—so they used police force and even stun guns on their own constituents. What are they so afraid of? Someone disagreeing with their views?
