Woke up to an article acceptance, a toddler who now **really gets** this whole potty training thing, and stunningly beautiful weather. Holding onto the bright spots.

So I read that group chat and...shouldn't the main story be that these clowns COLLAPSED AN ENTIRE APARTMENT BUILDING FULL OF CIVILIANS to kill one guy after explicitly stating that there isn't really any rush to get him?

Shut down the government. Do it, do it now, do it right in the middle of 5th avenue, do it and let the English see you do it. Tell them it was you who voted against GOP madness.

The message is simple. No Democratic votes for a lawless authoritarian government. @schumer.senate.gov

I guess I was naive but I really thought it would take more than 3 weeks to hit full-blown constitutional crisis.

The weird cognitive dissonance of having a snow day here in central NY, with over 3 ft of snow drift in our backyard, while historic fires rage 20 miles north of my parents' house, demolishing landmarks of my childhood.

My review of Goran Hyden's newest book is out in Political Science Quarterly--this book is a really interesting retrospective of 60 years of comparative politics research, and what the field misses when it ignores Africa. Gift link here: academic.oup.com/psq/advance-...

I wrote the year correctly on the letter of rec I submitted today. Please clap.

Making a real effort this year to ward off seasonal depression (light therapy, vit D supplementation) and this book tells me I should have special wintertime rituals/activities. What are your favorite winter things (that aren't skiing)? Bonus if they are little kid friendly.

After two years of repeated rejections and re-writes, a piece that is very important to me just got an R&R! Trying to take my own (and @mirya.bsky.social's) advice and celebrate academic wins. Okay, back to grading...

Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous Speaker of
yore—
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous
Speaker of yore
 Meant in croaking “Nevermore.”
Call me Speaker.
Tell me about a complicated parliamentary procedure.
Muse, tell me how it faltered and was lost
When they had sacked the holy voting rights
And who they met, and where they went; the pain
We suffered in their rank hypocrisy
And how they worked to peddle strife and bring
Their book deals home

Getting one conditional accept and one desk reject back-to-back for two articles from the same project is a real emotional ride. Reminding myself and everyone else to celebrate the wins when they come, and also rejection is normal and fine and worth celebrating too (thx @mirya.bsky.social for that)

Even better, my citation manager was so appalled by making this change that it opted to simply delete 90% of my citations rather than changing their format. Cool cool cool
This is a niche complaint but if a journal is going to include references in the word count, why oh why would they also require you to use Chicago w/ endnotes?
