Nobody can in good faith recommend Ukraine to take the ”deal” proposed by the US.

Simple as that
Trump’s peace deal is terrible. Ukraine should still accept it
Hard as it will be for President Zelensky to accept terms so generous to the invader, Russia may find it’s a tainted triumph

(1/4) The ongoing market response to last week’s US tariff announcement was both predictable and preventable. Even if you agree with the premise of these tariffs, every reasonable effort should be made to give US companies sufficient time to adapt.

An update on the war following a recent trip. The situation has improved compared with Fall 2024. Russian offensive momentum slowed significantly over the winter, though it is premature to claim that the front has stabilized, especially following AFU withdrawal in Kursk. /1

In the past several weeks, the U.S. leadership has demonstrated explicit hostility towards Ukraine and aligned its rhetoric and policy with Russia.

It’s time to say it plainly. America’s leadership has switched sides in the war. The American people have not, and they should speak up.
Editorial: A president just disrespected America in the Oval Office. It wasn’t Zelensky

This is Winston Churchill visiting the White House during World War II.

Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.

United States support for Ukraine was never about securing mineral rights.

Or providing security for money.

It was about democracy and sovereignty. And a willingness to defend our allies and oppose our enemies.

Trump is betraying Ukraine, but also our values. Our history and our legacy.

The greatest success of Putin's systematic mental warfare is that national conservatives in Western countries, who have traditionally been fiercely anti-communist and anti-Soviet, see him as an ally. In contrast, he sees them as useful idiots.

What I’ve understood from military experts who follow the battlefield situation closely is that it’s currently actually starting to go better for Ukraine and less well for Russia. So the timing seems key - Trump has stepped in before Russia ends up in a worse negotiating position.
I have long found it incredibly unlikely that Putin is after a deal. The issue is time and history. As for time, it is on Russia's side in the present attritional fight. But I don't think time is on Putin's side if he agrees to a ceasefire. 1/
