I’ve seen mountain lions a couple times in the Santa Barbara backcountry. Thankfully the cats didn’t consider me to be a prey item.

I’m told that when they show up in urban settings it’s a sure sign there’s something wrong with the environment.

Friday the 13th! A friend sent me this important safety warning. Having seen enough of those films, I believe it’s wise advice. 😜

Sadly the EPA is no longer informed by science nor is it on the side of protecting the environment.

EPA to repeal its own conclusion that greenhouse gases warm the planet and threaten health
Known as the endangerment finding, the decision is the legal framework that allows the EPA to regulate emissions. Its reversal could upend many climate change policies.

Basically, it was a city hidden in plain sight. I love it when written history intersects with archaeological discovery.

This made me laugh, so I’m passing it along. I have to lock my dogs out during Zoom meetings. Sometimes I can hear them whimpering outside the door.

Blonde Pumpernickel Sourdough Experiment:
I followed my pumpernickel recipe but excluded cocoa powder, molasses, and any other ingredients that would artificially darken the bread. Interestingly, even though the color is lighter, the taste and texture are very similar. 😋

When I first saw this article I thought it was an “Onion” style parody. Nope. A billionaire believes he can rally the masses to protest. Having to pay taxes is such a hard concept for billionaires to grasp.

This article sums up nicely to danger of de-extinction experiments (which thus far haven’t been successful). If extinction isn’t permanent, then it’s not so bad. That’s dangerous thinking.

Some companies claim they can ‘resurrect’ species. Does that make people more comfortable with extinction?
If de-extinction tech can bring back species, are people more comfortable with them going extinct? A new study tests this idea.

Happy Groundhog Day!
For years and years our family tradition was to watch the Bill Murray classic on this date. Great film, but at this point I’m kind of glad that tradition has faded.

For months, I’ve known one of my auxiliary backup lights was hung crooked. It’s something I doubt anyone else would notice, but once I saw it, I couldn't ignore it.

Long story short, I ended up spending the afternoon addressing several minor issues that only I would ever notice.
