I own a book shop in the far North. Politically left. Poet and artist. Ex twitter, don’t like wading through sewage.
Need some bluesky.
I don’t routinely respond to DMs.

The multi-millionaire who bought farmland to avoid tax…

And the man who decimated farming to progress his own career

…are now the self-appointed saviours of farming

On today’s pod we discuss how people have lost their damned minds.

More than one in three children living in poverty in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, anywhere to be honest, is a sickening statistic.

This really matters.
We are about to be bombarded by misinformation and fake news.
We must hold our leaders up to a higher standard.
We can’t accept a race to the bottom with regard to truth.
This is a re-announcement of the North of Tyne child poverty prevention work in schools. Financial advice at the school gate, baby boxes for new parents and free after-school clubs and learning sessions were all up and running years ago. I signed off the next two years of funding in March.

Good advice.
Word of the Day, should you need it, is ‘latibulate’, a 17th-century verb meaning to find a corner somewhere and hide in it.

Please, if you are able, support Independent bookshops.

They are the literary & social hubs of our high streets and communities.

Without their continued support, we simply wouldn't be around to publish .

Thank you.

I remain very proud of Reality Tunnel - I am sad that it looks like 4 episodes is the most there will ever be but it makes me happy every time I learn that people found it helped them (as well as made them laugh) - I do not feel ashamed showing this work off

At the end of The Empire Strikes Back the rebels are desolate. Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. Luke Skywalker has been defeated in battle by Darth Vader, losing a hand in the process. The Emperor's victory was total.... until the Jedi returned.

Not sure what made me think of that.

I posted a last thread on Twitter which I think is worth sharing an adapted version of here:

❗️ Democracy does not actually die in darkness: it dies in broad daylight because of the choices people make.

Historians have been telling you that since forever.

So, Boris Johnson’s memoir has tanked. Who cares? Not Boris, who keeps his 2m advance whether it pays out or not. Not HarperCollins, who get the kudos of bagging Boris. No, the people paying for this are all the other HarperCollins authors who get to subsidize him through lower advances and budgets.
