Sweden deports eight month old baby to Iran without his parents, national public radio reports. The ruling is a consequence of the harsh immigration laws initiated by the success of the nazi-originated party that is now crucial to the government’s mandate, but most parties are behind these laws.

A few weeks ago, I was teaching a class on the consequences of war during the 20th century; today I’m wondering whether SpongeBob SquarePants would have existed had the First World War not happened.

They‘re the Smartphone Generation. Not digital natives. They grew up with closed operating systems that don‘t require or even allow much customization beyond cosmetics, with cloud data and streaming.
If I hear one more person refer to Gen Z or Gen Alpha as digital natives when the students do not know:

1. How to use built-in Word functions like outlining and spellchecker
2. The different types of basic files
3. Interoperability
4. The issues related to uploading

When will this crisis get any attention whatsoever!? A THOUSAND ACADEMIC STAFF AT ONE INSTITUTION SERVED REDUNDANCY RISK NOTICES! And that's not counting what's surely being visited on professional services staff too. This is an economic catastrophe, to say nothing of the intellectual catastrophe!
Ongoing decimation of British universities part 252:

Apx. 1000 academic staff at University of Essex just received formal ‘risk of redundancy’ letters via email.

such a good demonstration of how AI agglomerates knowledge through predicting text: this is every single bean recipe that you’ve ever seen in your life, all at once, complete with 1/8 spoon of cinnamon (just trust me)
I am obsessed with this guy in the Rancho Gordo FB Group who decided to spend hours working with AI to figure out "the best" bean recipe instead of.....looking at actual recipes

Truly an abomination — and such a good example of how AI tricks us into thinking we can reinvent the wheel with its help

Ah Betty. She reminded me so much of my granny (similar class, height, style). One of my claims to fame is that she (Betty, not my granny) once let me make my own way out of the parliamentary estate, despite rules stipulating that visitors must be escorted at all times.
