Once again, I’m up way too late just because I don’t go to work until 2:00. But my writing group is at 8:30 and it’s gonna be real hard to get up in the morning.

Done with my second and final round of parent/teacher conferences for the year! Exhausted, but also happy to have these heart-to-hearts with the parents. And it's nice when they tell you you're having a positive impact on their child.

I have two hours in a row with my 3ème English Literature class starting at 8 a.m., and I have nothing planned. I was thinking of having them rewrite one of their original poems, based on what they've learned over the course of the unit, but I haven't finished grading them all!

Apparently, it's been 1 year and 4 months since I last cried to this song.
This song always makes me tear up. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a way that reminds me of the lowest points in my life. Either way, those voices are just angelic.

Just sitting here listening to Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush singing "Don't Give Up" and sobbing my eyes out. Don't mind me.

Wasn't feeling great today, so I wanted to get to bed early for once. Instead, I decided to add more content to my 9th grade poetry unit, then wasted time online. And now it's 2 a.m. and I'm going to pay for it in the morning..

Currently reading Little Women and sobbing at Beth’s death.

Dreamt that I was in the backyard of my old house cutting tree limbs and gardening when ICE passed through the alley. I thought, “I don’t have my ID & to them I’m just a dirty Mexican.” I ran round front to tell my neighbors to go inside, but they were already being taken. It was terrifying.

Not me annoyed at how dark the room is getting as the sun sets while LITERALLY reading "Do not go gentle in that good night."

Every Wednesday I go into work at 10:00. And every Tuesday night I stay up until 2 a.m. I do it to myself!

My 9th graders keep writing "hung" instead of "hanged" in their analyses of Alice Walker's short story "The Flowers." It makes it really awkward when reading their essays that say "Myop discovered a hung corpse." 🤦‍♂️

Christ... Why do I do this to myself?

At 10:30 p.m., I think: "I should go to bed because I have to be out the door by 7:45 a.m."

And here I am, still scrolling at 2:19 a.m.

Today, my 6th graders said the students in my other 6th grade class told them I'm boring and go off-topic too much. I told them it's because those students don't participate and are not fully engaged in class discussions. But it hurt, and I've been obsessing about it for the past 8 hours.

Sat down to do some writing, and some ridiculous nighttime road construction just started up outside my window. Seriously, it's 9 p.m. Why would you do that? This is Japan... Aren't there rules against this?

I guess meta figured out I wasn’t going to sign up for threads, so they stopped giving access to comments through the browser. Still not gonna sign up!

I became a history/geography teacher by total accident, and I always have to apologize to my students because I have no head for precise dates or geographic locations. It's HUMAN geography I do very well on. Country identification, on the other hand, not so much (just scored 35% on geoguesser).

Also managed to watch the Stranger Things finale this afternoon, and despite the ho-hum ending to the whole mythos, I thought the "kids" had a suitable epilogue. Wasn't really on board with the Reality Bites spoof (half expected Robin to sing Conjunction Junction), but as a conclusion, it was fine.

Happy New Year! I managed to finish reading one book just two hours before midnight, then another this evening. So that was 23 books for 2025, and I've got one down for 2026.

It's 11 p.m. and I'm starting to get sleepy. But I also really want a cup of coffee. 😑

Overall, a very successful Christmas Day! The joy on my daughter’s face when she saw what Santa brought, not to mention when she presented us with her homemade gifts. It was all just so perfect… we are so lucky!

We just went on a family run... Well, my husband and I ran while my daughter played in the park and rode her bicycle. It was nice, but I am thoroughly worn out.

One 2026 resolution I'd like to make is to detach myself from my phone. I'm sure I'll still keep it with me whenever I leave the house, but I want to stay off it when I'm at home. So I'll set up a space—like a landline dock—to put it aside when I walk in the door. Gonna bring back the phone niche!
