happy new year and may the odds always be closing!
goals:
- stop being depressed
- make a blog
- do some conference talks
- learn me some haskell (not like lazy eval mode)
- bonus: make some money so i dont have to live in someone's basement (but honestly they'd probably cook for me, so.. tbd)

ive heard for a long time that dual n-back exercises can improve working memory and just ran across this study that seems to point to it being particularly effective for people with adhd. i do them on and off (you can find free apps for it) but one thing i notice...

The CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov seems to be a troll and dick. He boasts about all the sperm he donated and made a tweet making fun of French President Macron being gay. So, toxic masculinity and homophobic. Please don’t use #Telegram

i have no words. some of my friends voted for trump. they said the trans thing wasn’t what he was about. they said citizens would be safe from ice. i don’t know if they still support him or if they lied to me, to themselves, or maybe they moved the goalposts. right now, i don’t care.

to my autistic friends - be kind to yourselves during the holidays, it’s a tough period. we’re often expected to do things like get presents or hang out and often we don’t have the spoons. i know i certainly don’t #asd #autism

ive no idea if this is generalisable. but im on the left and i don’t even like most figures on the left. why? because what’s the right thing to do isn’t always clear and we disagree. people say this is the weakness of the left- but what? it seems like the most natural thing. we aren’t a hive mind.

its the people who stand to gain the most that post stuff about how AI is the future and you're a scrub for not using it to wipe your butt. still, good chance you're a scrub but not because you're not using AI.

i was loving using #joplin. i set up webdav via nextcloud and my phone app and desktop were sync'ing great. then i get a "could not fetch" error for a .md file which causes it to abort sync. ok. so now what. why can't shit just work?

The CFP season is open. I've submitted to ElixirConf EU already. I have the one for Code BEAM Stockholm in my inbox. What would people like to hear. I can always come up with something but I'm curious if there are parts of things that I do that are more interesting to people.

whilst i #meditate for 10 minutes each day, my brain is doing its best to derail me, it gives me the "i bet you forgot about this important thing!" hoping that’ll get me to stop. so i write it down and move on. afterwards, i not only meditated, but i also have a great urgent todo list for my day ❤️

i call do-over on the web. the fact that it’s nearly impossible to create a web browser from scratch is a sign we’ve taken a wrong turn somewhere.

Johan has been a part of Elixir in Sweden for years. I was thrilled he was willing to stretch his comfort zone and get on stage at Goatmire.

Simplicity. This is the way! - Johan Mattisson
We all love exciting tech—microservices, event sourcing, Kubernetes. But when do we actually need them? Too often, we build for scale before we even have users, piling on complexity that slows us…

You may have read that Frédéric Péchier was sentenced to life in prison for killing his patients. Dude was involved in 70 serious adverse events, they figured this out AFTER starting to investigate him. Here's my problem, why did it take a colleague to report him?

this really really surprised me. there are times when i don't drive for a year and get back on the road -- i don't freak out. im a bit baffled.
it also scares me to think how AI is doing the same thing for coding.
