Figured I should re-introduce myself while getting set up in #dataBS

I write the docs and a bunch of other things at a data eng startup (CI, migrations, observability)

Outside of work, I’ve written about LLMs www.counting-stuff.com/technical-wr... & data jobs elliotgunn.github.io/writing-onli...

It's rare for companies show their hand but the Medium email re: Towards Data Science's exit is pretty revealing. Looks like it took them completely by surprise and they rushed out an email without even waiting for their new pub's intro post

Not too long ago I posted a call for interviewees on #dataBS and I'm psyched to share what I've put together:

7 interviews with data practitioners, from AEs to DEs to architects and analysts, on their data migration stories

And our data migration microsite:

One of my favourite newsletters, Capital Gains, which has some really good data adjacent explainers, has a v insightful piece this week on how data literacy != better judgement.

Not all stats cited are meaningful signals - he calls them "decorative":

Got a question for #dataBS:

Anyone ever survived a data migration with a story to tell—the good, the bad, or the "we’ll laugh about this someday"?

I’m writing a technical piece and I’d love to hear your wins, cautionary tales, and hard-earned lessons.

Please DM if you're keen!

My former employer @towardsdatascience.bsky.social has joined #dataBS!

They have a great newsletter you should check out. TDS is very welcoming to newcomers and publishes a lot, the Editor-in-Chief (Ben Huberman) does a great roundup of only the best pieces each week

There has never been a better time to get into software *and* roles that support it e.g. technical writing, product marketing. In fact, developer marketing is an incredibly exciting place to be in right now:

There are a lot of developer tools out there

if there are any Technically fans out there in #dataBS, I have a piece on data migrations in your inbox today:

I don't really know how to create data memes but here's the first and only one I've created for #dataBS

Really enjoyed this, the article is right about it coming down to a "select and review" process for a focused set of data points that answered questions people had

But this is still a bit too abstract to grok. One way to understand the difference is to see how it plays out in personal finance

arrived here via @randyau.com's post, very excited to see data twitter (sorry, databs) back at it after so long!!
This week on Counting Stuff, I couldn't help but write about how Data Bluesky... DataBS hit some magical tipping point and may be a thing now... also with lots of links to resources and stuff

Data-Twitter is having a MOMENT on Bluesky right now
Dare I hope Data-bluesky will become a thing?
