Been helping my brother and his fiancé with their first house, and fixing the electrical and plumbing disasters the previous owners cooked up. This afternoon was replacing a hard-wired 6-gang extension cable powering 3 heavy draw appliances(!!!) with temporary but safe supplies. Still got it!

"A modern-day concentration camp ... People have been killed by the staff here." Irish citizen Seamus Culleton has been in ICE detention since September, despite having a valid work permit and his own business in the US.

the messaging of fascists always has relied on portraying their enemies as being simultaneously overwhelmingly powerful and abusive as to be a mortal threat, while also being so weak as to be deserving of atrocity and conquest. the nature of the enemy changes to fit the message of the moment.
so I'm about halfway through my re-read of "the rise and fall of the third reich," world war 2 is about to kick off, and one notable thing is how many times hitler would start off speeches and meetings talking about how badly he/germany had been treated, usually by countries he planned on crushing

my snail van has very close to no computer and the carburettor (replaced in modern vehicles by electronic fuel injection) is designed in such a way that if you turn left too suddenly before it warms up, it starves the engine and you stall. only going left and only when cold. you want 5% computer.

Friendship hack: invite pals around to your place and make them a nice hearty soup. If you're cold they're cold and good veg soups cost like £3 for 4 huge servings. Your life will improve if you invite pals around for soup.

I think it says something about the current US government that my 75 year old neighbour both knows who the US Homeland Security Advisor (Stephen Miller) is and what his politics are. Related: he also wants him to kill himself.

Have fitted an audible alarm for if the soldering station is on for an hour or more. This is a proactive measure and is not a response to leaving the soldering station on overnight yesterday, which didn't happen.

Reading about skincare during lunch. Is daily sunscreen really a good thing to wear if i live in Ireland? Like in winter? I do in the summertime; I sunburn very easily. It seems like a bit of a waste of sunscreen between October and March though, what with the terminal darkness and gloom.
