It's a pretty regular toss up between Elish being tortured by Charibert or Charibert not even knowing who Elish was and him getting denied entry into the Holy See being a clerical error

If you dislike Elish, that's by design. He's meant to be a character that is an amalgamation of bad things-and he's meant to be unrepentant. Unrealistic.

Honestly, one of Elish's biggest inspirations is Teague Martin. From being a member of a religious military group to the world view, the gap in metaphysical power, there's nothing as perfect to my understanding of Ishgard as Dishonored (2012)

I basically always write the humans to start in settings, until I know enough to confidently say what I'd like about the other species/races.
And, as someone who writes lore adjacent RP, I'm glad I do. The lore that exists in the default state of A Realm Reborn is almost immediately discarded
