This war feels like the first time the death of media monoculture is having a massive impact on public opinion. Previously, getting an authoritative voice on CNN could drive the national conversation and set parameters for debate. That doesn’t seem accurate anymore, like we’ve hit a tipping point.
In research on civil rights movement, I (and others) find a key mechanism was winning contest of narratives. Segregationists said Jim Crow was lawful & just. Black activists strategically revealed its injustice. All to say headlines & images like this suggest you might be winning war & losing public

Israel has now backed itself into a corner, where all it has are bad options: push ahead w/ a high-cost/low-reward ground operation certain to fuel more opprobrium; call off the ground ops & continue w/ airstrikes, allowing Hamas to proclaim victory and still fueling opprobrium.
What might Israel have done instead? Declare a period of mourning, during which the nation could come together, grieve and get over the shock, even as military preparations were being made.

“Cette proposition a été élaborée à l’Elysée, notamment par le conseiller politico-militaire Xavier Chatel. Elle a surpris le Quai d’Orsay. Elle paraît prendre en considération des enjeux intérieurs, antiterroristes, à l’heure où Paris constate que le conflit résonne puissamment sur son sol.” 1/

And if I’m being honest… I wanted to talk about the return of his “Barry White” voice. News of the day is that Macron is sick!
Everyone wants to talk about Macron’s latest idea about an international coalition to fight Hamas. Looks like a storm in a tea cup imo. Sophie Pedder has all the relevant info. 🔽
Some clarification about Macron’s coalition suggestion, from the Elysée : his idea is to draw on the experience of the coalition against IS (not widen it), in ways that do not necessarily imply ground operations but could involve intelligence-sharing, training and other ways of fighting terrorism

But there’s still no confirmation from Élysée as of writing, so this is unreported in French media.
