Binding Media | Stanford University Press
Far from causing the "death of the book," the publishing industry's adoption of digital technologies has generated a multitude of new works that push the boundaries of literature and its presentation....

What are people watching these days?
It’s finally Friday and I already finished The Diplomat, Task, and GBBO. I also already watched Frankenstein.

I curated some readings for class on "data tensions" and the list felt worth sharing. Come on a tour of datasets, books, the web, and AI with me...

We'll start with this piece on the Google Books project: the hopes, dreams, disasters, and aftermath of building a public library on the internet.

Thanks also to @elikaortega.bsky.social for helping us display the cover of her book "Binding Media: Hybrid print-digital literature from across the Americas"! Élika gave a fantastic talk for @scholarslab.bsky.social in '22 on literary & material experimentations via hybrid print-digital books.

If the semester were a hike, I'd be at the point where I can already see the parking lot at the bottom of the trail and it seems totally attainable, but I also know it's kinda far away, am too hot/cold, my backpack feels way too heavy, and my feet hurt.

So happy this chapter with one of my very favourite co-authors is in the world 💖 (with an OA version forthcoming… any day now!)
A good mail day! I loved collaborating with @alyssaarbuckle.bsky.social on this chapter. We even snuck a few photos in there. So many great contributors—thank you to editors Constance Crompton, @lauraestill.bsky.social, Richard J. Lane, & @raysiemens.bsky.social for making it possible!

Mail art is also part of my Spring class and I was thinking would anyone be interested in making an inter institutional mail art network?
Lat Am focus and Spanish language would be the best fit, but certainly not required.
Tiny but sustaining news: my upper division class––in which we'll be making cartoneras, paper planes a la zapatista, twines, bluesky bots, etc.––for next semester is already full and with even has a wait list! 🎉✨

I could not be more excited that the brilliant @plach.bsky.social is visiting Arizona and @asulincolncenter.bsky.social this week to talk about the stories we need, the voices we need, the histories we need in these (urgent) times.

The lecture will be hybrid! Join us in-person or ✨online✨!

Last reading of the contemporary LatAm lit survey done! We read Alarcón's Ciudad de Payasos and students seemed excited to rethink the transnational parameters of "LatAm lit" when the story was first published in English in the U.S., but then first published as graphic novel in Spanish.

Me looking at slides from a meeting I missed: dang, I can't really make sense of the info without the narrative and explanation of the main points.

Students looking at slides from classes they missed: got it, I'm all caught up.

Since many are posting about president Sheinbaum, please remember that, in addition to being president, she has a PhD.
Please do not call her Ms. or Mrs. Sheinbaum.

I am SO happy to be able to share the wonderful cover for DISPATCHES FROM THE AVANT-GARAGE: THE ALTERNATIVE PRESS coming in March from Wayne State UP. The cover has it all—postcards, letterpress, a bison. Beautifully designed, as it happens, by Lindsey Cleworth, who grew up in my/our hometown.
