I have never painted so many birds in one piece before. However, I was thrilled when Lit Haven sent me the idea for the cover.

Can you guess I love painting very detailed scenes? 😆

Client: Noordhoff Uitgevers
A dinner scene at Versailles in the early 1680s: Louis XIV eating together with his family. Around them, a crowd of nobles looks on curiously at the semi-public performance. Some of them are bickering and fighting for the privilege of serving the royal family who is mostly unimpressed and enjoying their meal. In the foreground, a toddler has wandered off from their mom and is precariously reaching for a candle on the royal table.

New portfolio piece! This one took over a year to finish between making three whole books and other work, but I'm glad I didn't rush it.

Unveiling the Mystery #2

These are the two value sketches I landed on during Paul Canavan's MIR mentorship after we went through thumbnailing and concepting.

I typically skip pure line sketches and go for "shape carving" instead. My mind just works better thinking in light/shadow and shapes.

I know it's a peak ADHD question but HOW are people able to consistently juggle work, friends, family and life necessities like cleaning your place or seeing doctors (especially as you get older and need to do it more often), not even talking about friends or family needing help with life stuff 🥲
