Also, it’s very interesting that no one ever objects to the use of the word user in “wheelchair user” ! Personally I’m not fussed about the word, I use it to mean employ.

I do like your blogs etc, as I hope you’re aware and we have a mutual interest in language…

Thanks. I think it’s about not perpetuating the stigma that is illustrated by people saying they don’t like the word user because of its association with drugs/alcohol.

I actually feel that view should be challenged…and would do so if I had the opportunity. So I was disappointed to hear this from both yourself and the centre for care without such a challenge being made
November 20, 2025 at 4:56 PM
How do you think such people (and their families) feel to hear the association of people who use drugs with something implicitly negative in that manner?
November 20, 2025 at 4:54 PM
I get all that, that’s not my point. You said that some people didn’t like the word user because “it is linked to drug use”. People who use drugs are human beings too.

@bryonyshannon.bsky.social @centreforcare.bsky.social I’m just listing to your podcast. I like your stuff, as you’re aware. But I don’t like the way you are criticising the use of the term “user” because it is “linked to drug use”. People who use drugs are human beings too, including my brother…

Deeply concerning to hear that Disabled people are facing surveillance, with evidence of being physically active is used against us.

The only 'welfare reform' the government should be talking about is a complete overhaul of this ableist system.
🚨Disabled man lost his PIP after being filmed by DWP at his cricket club🚨

It's deeply concerning that Disabled people face punishment for being active.

We must resist the welfare reform bill that will only make the DWP more harmful!

Of which there are 1.3 million people…the “concessions” are a big red herring, playing on MPs lack of understanding of PIP/DLA
June 29, 2025 at 12:24 PM
And this applies to those currently on DLA also
June 29, 2025 at 12:23 PM
And the 1.3 million people on DLA are also not protected, even if they have an indefinite award
June 29, 2025 at 12:20 PM
But it’s far worse than this ! People who have a PIP review or those still in receipt of DLA will all also be affected. That’s about 3.5 million people who will also potentially be affected. The concession proposals are a red herring, based on a lack of understanding of these issues

We're moved by the stunning photo essay by Frankie MIlls which powerfully demonstrates the pain couples and families in our community and across the UK suffer at the hand of the cruel and hostile UK family migration system.

Reasonable adjustments still not being made ! (Why am I not surprised…)

Disabled workers are facing large amounts of discrimination including failure to provide reasonable adjustments and bullying at work, a TUC survey has found:
