How over- and underrepresented are different causes of death in the media?

Another way to visualize this data is to measure how over- or underrepresented each cause is.

To do this, we calculate the ratio between a cause’s share of deaths and its share of news articles.

I’m a bit late to this, but this is a very moving account. And also extremely powerful in having some describe the system so clearly having seen it in action from the inside. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

New randomized, controlled trial by the World Bank of students using GPT-4 as a tutor in Nigeria. Six weeks of after-school AI tutoring = 2 years of typical learning gains, outperforming 80% of other educational interventions.

And it helped all students, especially girls who were initially behind.

Just a reminder for Germans abroad that you need to re-register to vote in the Federal Election, even if you didn't move houses since 2021 (yes, I'm a political scientist and had to google this). Here are the docs you need: www.bundeswahlleiterin.de/bundestagswa.... (1)

„…while the bottom third of scientists see little benefit, the output of top researchers nearly doubles. (…) 82% of scientists report reduced satisfaction with their work due to decreased creativity and skill underutilization.“
Paper shows that AI (in this case a diffusion model) accelerates innovation. Among key findings:
1) GenAI increases novel discoveries: a 39% increase in patent filings!
2) It boosts the best performers by acting as a co-intelligence
3) It takes away some of the fun parts of work

I took this idea and ran with it. May I present: a starter pack featuring all the speakers for the upcoming #RSAWinter Conference that I could find on here.
go.bsky.app/T2NMDo4
Please let me know if I missed anyone.
I think BlueSky will be significantly better for conferences than any other site. Organisers can create speaker starter packs to allow attendees to auto-follow all speakers. Also a custom feed of all folks skeeting abut a conf would be a big win.
Advocating that tech conferences start including Bluesky accounts on profile pages and badges is already working!

In eastern Germany, where the disruption that followed reunification more than 30 years ago is still evident, AfD support is much stronger.

And while AfD voters are mostly 45 to 60 years old, more and more young Germans are ready to back the extremist party ⤵️
