It was our anti-authoritarianism book club choice last month. We had a great discussion with our @wfindivisible.bsky.social book club group. Seeing how the autocratic playbook is the same across countries and decades can be truly eye-opening. We need more people to be aware of it.
My book #Strongmen turns 5 today! The paperback edition, with a new epilogue on January 6, is now 4. The book built a large readership gradually and became a New York Times bestseller in Nov. 2024. Thank you to all who read it and share its warnings about what such leaders do to societies.

"It would be great if we had an institution enshrined in the Constitution that would alert us when dangerously out-of-bounds things happen. An institution like, maybe, the press.

Instead, the media are easing us into tyranny."
That old metaphor about the frog and the boiling water isn’t true: If you put a frog in a pot of water and slowly raise the heat, the frog will jump out before it gets boiled to death.
The question now is whether American journalists are smarter than frogs.
