This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

In this moment, coal miners turned their red bandanas into a symbol of solidarity — both to distinguish themselves from the enemy and to show that, across racial lines, coal miners were united along class interests

For this reason, they were known as the "Redneck Army."

Wednesday, on a party-line vote, the US House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform advanced 14 bills to weaken or outright repeal DC’s local laws. These bills aren’t just uninformed & anti-democratic, they are dangerous and will make us less safe. 🧵

The snowstorm in DC today is a reminder of how lovely it can be to walk in a city that has minimal traffic. Everything is so quiet and peaceful, and city residents are walking or taking Metro to wherever they need to go. It’s really nice

I think that people like watching NCAA hoops because the visible fans on TV (the student sections) are loud and passionate. They are given premium seating and can afford to go. The NBA struggles with this because the best seats are $$$ and filled with corporate interests, not fans
