Sustainable Land Use Enhances Soil Microbial Respiration Responses to Experimental Heat Stress
Soil microbes are crucial for healthy ecosystems, but climate change and intensive farming may reduce their functioning. We tested how heat stress affects microbial respiration in soils under differe....

Dear #nematode community,
Does anyone currently have nematodes in culture and would be willing to share or sell some? We are planning different experiments and are also happy to collaborate and share more details.

Congratulations to our engaged colleagues. Very well deserved!!!!
We had an incredible award ceremony in Munich, hosted and organized by Volkshochschule München and the Grüter Stiftung, in collaboration with Naturkundemuseum Bayern/Biotopia. So glad Amelie from our team could join the celebration as well! 😊

Co-coordinator Lise Thouvenot @lisethouvenot.bsky.social takes point on all MTAs and lab protocols used in Soil BON! Her work is VITAL to the progress & success of the campaign by making sure samples enter the country legally & abide by soil provider country regulations WE 💚 LISE!

My new substack newsletter explains the fundamental trade-off in experiments in ecology and environmental sciences: you can either have mechanistic resolution or realism, but not both in the same experiment.

Wow, so nice to see this work out, led by Chris Sweeney! he shows, in a massive experiment, that plant traits and phylogenetic relatedness are poor predictors of plant–soil feedbacks. In @journalofecology.bsky.social

Plant phylogeny, traits and fungal community composition as drivers of plant–soil feedbacks
Our results suggest that plant traits and phylogenetic relatedness are poor predictors of plant–soil feedbacks (PSFs) among temperate grassland plant species. Hence, despite known effects of these fa...

Our new @pnas.org paper shows a previously unrecognized mechanism by which climate warming reduces beech growth: more frequent seed production depletes tree resources, causing a 28% decline in radial growth.

@drpeterdietrich.bsky.social whenever you and we have a free slot, it would be great if you can present this in our seminar!
This looks like a great option when nondestructive biomass measurements are required, e.g., in mesocosm experiments.
Preprint alert!🚨 You want biomass data without clipping the vegetation? Use your smartphone for a 3D scan! In our manuscript you get instructions & a complete Jupyter notebook for immediate use! doi.org/10.32942/X2T... 🪴+📱=💚 #biodiversity #ecology #globalchange #photogrammetry
