It's so fucking convenient that they get to "fear for their lives" anytime they want to absolve themselves of anything and when we actually fear for our lives because of them and do anything a scared person would do it's justification for our death.

since it's apparently Ace Combat X day I really should tell you all that in a series that is stuffed from beginning to end with banger soundtracks, this three-track run in X is legitimately one of the best in the series, right up there with Avalon/Morgan/Zero

I feel like it probably feels like it was lifted from something because it looks almost exactly like a John Wick scene, but this game predates the John Wick franchise by four years so there’s actually a pretty good chance this was in the Influence pool for the film series.
this is still one of my favorite directed scenes in the series, despite... well iykyk 🙃

to put this more succinctly: a lot of people joke that the game is saying "war is fine as long as it's people fighting" but keeping real people in the loop makes the human cost more sobering. if you aren't risking your soldiers' lives, you're likely to sleepwalk into tragedy and mass death anyway
really if Ace Combat 7 was just written better it would be less of a commentary on drones and more of one on the dehumanization of warfare and how people who have become distant to or distanced themselves from the very real consequences of war will have it come back to them in a catastrophic way
