I joined millions of Americans today in attending a protest. I wasn't paid, and neither were any of the roughly 5,000 people in Princeton with me. It was peaceful, occasionally joyful, and within our rights as Americans.

Libraries are pillars of our communities. The NJ State Library provides critical services for our libraries, and especially for residents with disabilities.

Trump’s attempts to take resources away from them are wrong and illegal.

We’re suing to block these reckless cuts.

Another agency is now gone. I've worked with IMLS staff over the years & they are dedicated public servants. Their work has led to huge transformations in library & museum services. I guess we just can't afford the 70 jobs & .0046% of the federal budget. Even though the law REQUIRES it & FUNDED it!

Apparently you can die for your country but still not be trusted to read about Martin Luther King or Jackie Robinson in the library at the US Naval Academy. Quote from NYT article published yesterday.

There's so much devastation to the federal workforce. Programs created through laws & funded by Congress are disappearing. We'll advocate to save IMLS. Anyone else who would like to join us & lend their voices to the cause of culture and literacy would be most welcome.

Yesterday we heard this song in a class I am taking. Viva la Quinta Brigada is a folk song about the Irish role in the Spanish Civil War. Irish men fought on both sides of this war but this song honors those fighting against fascism.

Today, I found a quilted heart hanging from a tree in Mercer County Park. What a lovely project. Finding my heart was a lift to my day. Thanks to the quilters who make and gift these hearts. Sometimes, we all need evidence of the kindness of strangers.

I think I will be saying this often in the coming years.
