In this paper we use data from Argentina to contribute to the debate about the dangers of polarisation. We explore if partisans rely on regime stereotypes to stigmatise rivals; are more emotional in victory/defeat; and display conditional democratic commitments

Re the Le Pen verdict, these decisions raise vexing questions about the relationship btw accountability and democracy & can have complicated conseq for public opinion, judiciaries and politics more broadly. We explore them in our book on Latin America’s Lava Jato

France: Presidential candidate Marine Le Pen (RN-PfE) has been sentenced to 4 years in jail and banned from holding public office for 5 years for embezzlement.
The ban, which disqualifies her from the 2027 presidential election, will come into force even if she appeals.
