On Facebook, I asked a stridently anti-Mamdani voter, "Do you hope you're wrong about him?" and without hesitating, she replied, "Nope." They want him to be a Jew-hating monster because they think that's an acceptable price to pay to force unity over Israel among Jews. That is not going to happen.

With 3 prestige films scheduled for next year, 2026 could easily be a career best year for Caitríona Balfe.

THIS is how you move on the film scene after your decade-long hit TV show wraps.

She continues to show epic range, also Oscar-calibre work in Ford v Ferrari and Belfast.

I don't write by longhand, but I will still happily nominate Emma Thompson for the job of President of Writers for this.

For anyone being dramatic about how bad things are, I beg you to open a history book. Things are always this bad. That’s why there’s music & art & stories & every way humans try to create something beautiful & meaningful from chaos & fear.

But please, read more history books. Please. 🙏🏼

Every time she posts in support of Palestine (which is a LOT) I adore her a little more.

What in the Baby Caitríona ?!?

Outlander casting people still cooking with fire after all these years, I see.

Caitríona Balfe back in studio film mode at last, with reliably epic red carpet game.

I hope she will book something great and auteur-y soon.

Now that her decade-long TV gig is done, she deserves a full-time film career with the best collaborators.

I just read this Variety hit job in which it's clear that Disney is trying to pin the failure of Snow White on Rachel Zegler. I'm confused: Did she make the studio spend $270 million on an unasked-for remake of a 90-year-old piece of IP?

8 actors who lost tonight, could be back in the Oscar race next season.

Timothee Chalamet, Ralph Fiennes, Sebastian Stan, Cynthia Erivo, Colman Domingo, Jeremy Strong, Ariana Grande, Demi Moore.

Wouldn't THAT be quite the next chapter for them all ?

IF THE THE OSCARS WERE TODAY (February)

Since this Oscar season is chop, I am now focusing on the 2025 slate with a post on the last day of every month (January below).

I will only add performances that had been already reviewed, could be interesting to see these in December.

ABC News caved days before they were gonna get that clown in for a sworn deposition.

On that alone, I will never forgive them.

At the moment probably every major film studio is feverishly looking for (preferably yet unadapted) stage musicals to turn into BO smash hits and I really hope some variation of these, WILL happen.

They should still release it. Let the people know what trump and co think is acceptable.

It is quite interesting how the two wildly different film musicals of 2024, are getting the same critics consensus.

I am curious to see where both will land this Oscar season.

#WickedMovie will be helped by Box Office, #EmiliaPérez will be helped by the Cannes/Auteur prestige.

If The Oscars Were Today

#1-5 - Timothee Chalamet & Ariana Grande entered the chat ... could Jonathan Bailey surprise?

#6-12 - The "need SAG/Bafta love to secure a slot in the Oscar top5" crowd.

#13-20 - Watch out for LRD (great early word) & Kate Winslet's surprise campaign.

I will never understand how a billionaire, the richest man on Earth, spent millions to buy an election for ANOTHER billionaire, and told us that his policies would cause all of us non-billionaires “temporary hardship...”

...and the public didn't tell BOTH OF THEM to fuck off.
