My video on the Austin Kimberley now has 75,000 views. The 1800’s Aussie replacement remains compromised, but in an entirely different manner. Yet like any fluid-floating BL oddity, I enjoyed it very much. So if you’re twiddling your thumbs, why not indulge in the nerdery?

The Triumph Stag is one of British Leyland’s few shining lights, and though it had issues, the fundamentals were perfect. Gorgeous Michelotti styling and a barking overhead cam V8 ought to have made it a world beater. If you’d like to see the full video, comment ‘STAG’ below.

One year ago this week, I sold Melody, my little Austin Metro donated to Twin-Cam by the most generous subscriber. Back in 2021, she was very tired, yet very happy, and while I pressed her almost immediately into semi-daily use, some serious work was required. (1/4)

The Peugeot 205 GTI is widely regarded as the greatest hot hatch of all time, but why is that? As far as I can see, it comes down to a combination of four factors: style, pedigree, driving pleasure, and dependability. If you’d like to see the full video, comment ‘PEUGEOT’ below.

This car has cropped up in a serious number of my videos, and frankly, how couldn’t it? The Mk3 Ford Cortina is one of the most fashionable mainstream family cars ever to grace British roads, and this is just about the coolest. (1/3)

The Mini is undoubtedly iconic, but in 1960s Britain, our favourite car was instead its big brother, the Pininfarina-styled and fluid-floating Austin-Morris 1100. If you’d like to see the full video, then comment ‘ISSIGONIS’ below.

Radio’s jammed up with talk show stations,
Lost souls calling long distance salvation.
Hey, Mr. DJ, won’t you hear my last prayer?
Hey-ho rock and roll, deliver me from nowhere.

Best album of all time.
On this day in 1987, Bruce Springsteen hit #1 on the Billboard 200 with 'Tunnel of Love.' The triple platinum album featured "Brilliant Disguise," one of his biggest singles, reaching #5 on the Hot 100.

Volkswagen’s image of quality and dependability came entirely from the most popular car the world has ever seen: the beloved Beetle. And best of all, it’s the car that came to stand for personal freedom and expression. If you’d like to see the full video, then comment ‘BEETLE’ below.

The Mk1 Golf defined the modern mid-size hatchback, and despite its novelty, Volkswagen customers lapped it up, selling over one million units within two years, a figure equating to 48 Golfs being sold every single hour. If you’d like to see the full video, then comment ‘GOLF’ below.

In the early 1970s, the Fiat 127 and Renault 5 were appealing to millions, so the Volkswagen Polo seemed to be vitally important. In the end, however, the Audi-based hatchback sold relatively few, yet it began a fifty-year dynasty. If you’d like to see the full video, then comment ‘POLO’ below.

The Mk1 Polo was a rebadged Audi 50, but when Volkswagen bought both Auto Union and NSU, they saw no future for the firms. That had changed, however, by 1970, leading us to the modern VW range of Polo, Golf, and Passat. If you’d like to see the full video, then comment ‘POLO’ below.

You don’t need a big one to be happy.
A tighter lock than Mick McManus.
Better in jams than strawberries.
Wake up to a little happiness.

See your local Austin Rover dealer.

Right wingers. "We can say what we like because we have free speech." Also right wingers "You should stick to cars and not mention politics." Um, what happened to that free speech? Oh, it only applies when someone says something you agree with? Interesting...

In the 1960s, Volkswagen's German market share fell by over 40%. The air-cooled, rear-engine platform of the Beetle was way past its sell-by date, and through buying both Auto Union and NSU, Wolfsburg were able to thoroughly renew their line-up, launching the Passat, Golf, and Polo in the... (1/3)

The most iconic of Italian city cars - Dante Giacosa’s Fiat Nuova 500 - was a masterclass in minimalism. With inspiration from contemporaries, every component was there to make it affordable, practical, and reliable, without sacrificing ability. If you’d like to see the video, comment ‘FIAT’ below.

As kids, nobody my age loved anything more than Japanese performance cars. Gran Turismo 4 didn’t have many exotic European manufacturers, so outside of Top Gear, they fell entirely off the radar. Instead, it was all Supras, Silvias, Skylines, and Subarus. I’ve ticked off several of my… (1/3)

You’ve gotta love the intellectual capabilities of the average YouTube commenter. This on my E21 BMW video. It’s staggering how many people have the critical thinking skills of a walnut 😂

In the late 1970s, buying a BMW in the UK was a serious business. For the beautiful six-cylinder engine, refined bodywork, and phenomenally-judged ride and handling, an E21 323i was more expensive than a V8 Rover SD1. If you’d like to see the full video, then comment ‘BAVARIA’ below.

The last car you’ll ever need? A few months back, I was invited by Manor Park Classics to come and drive Mercedes-Benz’s iconic W123 for the first time. This one’s a 280 CE - the top-of-the-line coupe - making it technically a C123. (1/4)

The con-job from producers and supermarkets hiking prices and lowering quality won’t wash.

The average UK salary grew by 42% in fifteen years, between 2009 and 2024. In that same time, inflation was 55%. People are paid less.

On the other hand, Tesco’s profits almost trebled between 2023 and 2024.

The Mini may be the best selling British car of all time, but by the late ‘70s, it was very old fashioned. Overtaken by modern superminis, British Leyland were crying out for the Austin Metro - launched in October 1980. If you’d like to see the full video, comment ‘MINI’ below.

I would deeply love to do a video on an Allegro SS.
Factoid: The Allegro has its flaws, but I’ve a soft spot for them especially higher spec models.

Here’s a gd example, a Mk1 1750 SS, a Sport Special & the rarest car you’ll see today as just three (& only two of those are licensed) exist on British roads…
