This violent crackdown threatens the very democracy that once made #Tanzania a symbol of stability across the continent. From the U.S. to Tanzania & every corner of our global community, we cannot let democracy erode in silence. Tanzanians deserve transparency.
Deeply alarmed by reports out of Tanzania, where a police crackdown on protests has left hundreds dead.

We must have an independent, transparent investigation and accountability.

And the US must always support self-determination & a peaceful democratic process.

For so many asylum seekers, CBP One was the only legal pathway to safety & stability.

Repurposing the app for self-deportation in order to circumvent due process and the legal rights of those who migrate here is deplorable & unconscionable.

The cruelty is the point.

This level of incompetence is damning and dangerous from our grossly unqualified Secretary of Defense.
American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. theatln.tc/IuULQFiY
The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

4 years ago, a violent mob incited by Trump attacked our democracy.

And today, our democracy is still threatened by the harm he has promised to deliver in his next term.

We'll never stop pursuing accountability & telling the story of what happened that day.

In the final days of his presidency, President Biden must use his clemency authority.

For the families—disproportionately Black and brown, with loved ones behind the wall—impacted by mass incarceration and the injustices of the legal system.

Biden using his clemency authority to address mass incarceration isn't just the moral thing to do.

It's also fiscally responsible.
