Great piece about why Zone Zero rulemaking is complicated for a state as big and diverse as CA. Thanks @nohaggerty.bsky.social for the clarity, and to the many (mostly) SoCal voices of reason including Max Moritz @ucanr.edu for improving the outcomes.

How Zone Zero, designed to protect California homes from wildfire, became plagued with controversy and delays
California needs new rules to help future wildfires from destroying homes and businesses. But Zone Zero regulations, a key tenet of the state's plans, have roiled homeowners.

Finally some good news for LA and Eastern Sierra ecology and communities we rely upon
A major shift in where L.A. gets water: The city will double the size of a project to transform wastewater into purified drinking water, producing enough for 500,000 people. The recycled water will allow L.A. to stop taking water from creeks that feed Mono Lake. www.latimes.com/environment/...
Los Angeles will nearly double recycled water for 500,000 residents
Los Angeles is set to double the size of a planned facility that will transform wastewater into purified drinking water, recycling enough water to meet the needs of 500,000 people.

Yes, it's nearly November. And yes, it's 90ºF at #UCLA today.
Extreme heat is a year-round issue in Los Angeles, especially now with climate change. Check out the hashtag #HeatSafeLA for tips to stay safe on hot days and for staying involved in cooling LA!

Got to check out Festival Trail’s new modular shade prototype at Grand Ave Arts this weekend — complete with immersive VR art experience. Great to see such concepts come to fruition despite many site-specific restrictions, and thrilled to have them as a ShadeLA partner.

Just a spoonful of political will could make a profound difference for those least able to afford the most basic of resources 💧

Let's get get some policy champions to address this -- both bottom-up (low-income rate assistance) and top-down (system financing)
Wherein @edithdeguzman.bsky.social & I continue to beat the drum for more system financing support which will indirectly help and customer assistance which will directly help affordability outcomes.

Or we could just keep the status quo of measuring and talking about the problem w/o addressing it
Not just electricity that's getting too expensive in Southern California -- water bills are a growing problem too, @ianjames.bsky.social reports: www.latimes.com/environment/...

Proud to join @gregspierce.bsky.social & our research team in unleashing this new resource for SoCal communities after 1 ½ years of work! Water equity begins with knowing where your community is starting from and where it’s going. If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.
