#UCLA’s @vkturner.bsky.social tells @time.com that many US schools weren’t built for our warming climate. Heat hurts learning, and classrooms without proper cooling leave kids and teachers exposed.

Our @luskininnovation.bsky.social-led, 4-university team report w the State Water Board on Phase 1 of the CA Wastewater Needs Assessment is out.

It runs a brisk 187 pages and lays out the methodologies for implementation in Phase 2, to be completed by July 1, 2027.

Cool pavements can help fight urban heat, but they’re not perfect. @vkturner.bsky.social tells @grist.org that while these materials reflect heat, they also increase radiant heat midday, calling for smart placement in areas busiest during cooler hours.

@edithdeguzman.bsky.social’s research shows that shade can reduce up to 25% of heat-related deaths and reduce ER visits by up to 66% in LA. Her Roots of Cool art exhibit makes this data visible, highlighting who has shade and who doesn’t.
