👀 Apparently, Ross Douthat invited Seth Harp to debate him on Douthat's "Interesting Times" NYT podcast. Harp says that the episode was recorded, Douthat got crushed, and RD/NYT decided not to publish it.

They don’t want normal people to see what is happening in America.

isn't it funny how this whole time, while fascist forces were engaged in over a decade-long takeover of national institutions and imposition of ideological conformity, some very clever & respectable ppl burnished their careers by insisting the actual problem was "polarization" lol

mindlessly repeating "witty banter" or "brilliant guy" is exactly how epstein was able to operate for decades. he had $$$$$ and he said "shakespere good amirite," so please stop with the genius gag. we don't have to maintain the elaborate facades of reputation, whether academic or political
This is a harrowing look at Epstein's connections to academia. It shows how Epstein was able to woo high-profile scholars with witty banter, promises of research funding, and help from a well-connected literary agent, despite not having a degree himself.

Through coffees, phone calls and private flights, at least nine more academics are linked to Jeffrey Epstein in the latest disclosure of documents from the Justice Department.

A legal asylum-seeker who works at Chipotle and plays music at a church in Maine went missing. His pastor searched and searched, eventually finding his abandoned car with the keys on the floor.

ICE grabbed him. No criminal record. No explanation.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

lmao if you step back from inhabiting this horror for a sec, it's genuinely hilarious that he tried to step into an ongoing battle about fascism with the words "Here's a podcast"

bruh
Here’s a podcast that does a good job of laying out what’s at stake, and why all of us need to get off the sidelines to demand change.

You see this sort of argument a lot, but it doesn't make sense to me. If ICE is fully funded outside of the normal appropriations process, then how do the Dems have the leverage to demand even these reforms?
Dems do not have a majority and ICE has $75 billion outside of normal appropriations that it can spend even if DHS shuts down. Some of these asks would make actual, tangible difference (the warrant requirement being a huge one to correct an egregious illegality), but it wouldn't stop ICE in general.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

Waking up today I felt borderline euphoric. With no leadership and no institutional buy-in the people shut down economic activity, defended their neighbors, and ended a fascist's career. None of those things were supposed to happen, but regular people decided they should, so they did. Incredible!
Minnesota staged a general strike, defended itself against a pogrom in the absence of elected leadership, and got an einsatzgruppenführer fired. That unfamiliar feeling is actual, honest-to-god people power.

how is this the opposition party??? literally none of this would've made any substantive difference in what we've experienced over the past year in chicago, minneapolis, LA, portland etc. worse than useless — in practice it's complicit

Cannot repeat the Obama-era dodge of saying "we tortured some folks" and not holding accountable the torturers and especially the chain of command. You want to stop state-sanctioned crimes? Trials not words are the only way.
Bovino’s retirement needs to be a cage. His command environment yielded Renee Good’s death, Alex Pretti’s death & Julio Sosa-Celis’ shooting. Failure to prosecute Bovino & everyone else materially responsible for these atrocities will be understood by ICE, CBP, etc as a green light for the next ones
