Instead of demanding people stand up for what's right, show that you'll support them when they do.
Anyway, we will talk about it.

I will not go away.

And in the meantime I'll document each person's roles in Racehush and my evidence of it.

Sure would be better to talk about it though.

It is much worse than this. I was asked to invite LC and a list of people he'd personally submitted and I responded appropriately and it has led to my deplatforming across North American conventions.

Genre won't talk about it. The reaction has been violent.

But I won't go away.

Here's the thing. And yeah, I'm tougher now. Had to be.

Con-going "just have good vibes" writers?

We are *going* to have the conversation about the racism, misogynoir, misogyny, abuse, and exclusion.

We will.

So it's just how complicit you want to be known as before that happens.

I do not jest.
December 26, 2025 at 11:01 PM
I mean, we really could talk about how the spaces are *actually* deeply exclusionary, rather than make fun of a racist guy who might not even be real.
December 26, 2025 at 10:42 PM
Hurts to see white writers hopping into the replies about cons to make jokes about this and high fiving each other.

Including some of the most complicit in the exclusion.

And some with the coldest reputations.

Wish we'd talk about that, instead of some article anecdote that prob didn't happen.
Reminder that "you can build natural relationships at cons" isn't available to writers who cross the racists controlling the spaces, and to a lot of marginalized writers who aren't comfortable supporting or safe within the spaces as they are.

I suspect that some folks forget that writers are people.

As I've observed it?

When ww act mean to stay in the patriarchy, they are mostly left to do their thing.

When ww act docile to stay in the patriarchy, they're praised: sweet, kind, beautiful, skillful.

When ww think and act for themselves, they're monitored for the need to discredit them.

Watch how fast the popular white men will hop off of the disc horse when it's about whiteness and patriarchy and not only about wealth and tech.

This is not meant as a dig. If you don't see it, you need to.

If you do see it, I think we need to talk about it.
December 26, 2025 at 8:41 PM
I very much don't like our discourse being prompted by ragebait articles.

However, discussions on whiteness and patriarchy are exactly what we NEED to be having.

We also need to talk about abuse, silence, and social isolation. But if we *actually* talk about power dynamics, that would follow.
December 26, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Seriously. No one dislikes you because you're white, a straight man, a white woman, an American...

Not a thing.

They could dislike you because you center yourself with that harmful premise rather than doing the work to understand systematic inequality, safety, and wariness and how to help.
December 26, 2025 at 7:45 PM
There's also an entire discussion on where BIPOC can actually go to get published and the restrictions on that that genre is absolutely not willing to have yet and would go a *lot* different than almost all white people think.
December 26, 2025 at 5:34 PM
Like, being fed up with and wary of cis white man patriarchal gaslighting entitlement and harm is a thing.

But not disliking white men because they're white men.

And suggesting the second is very much engaging in the first.
In case any white men who say this see this note, for the record:

Not liking white men because they are white men isn't a thing. If you mean well, you aren't engaging seriously enough yet if you won't do the basic research to get past that very harmful premise.

Just walked through the house to check my soup, someone had CNN on, I heard Wolf Blitzer say the process for returning presidents is harder this year, and I nodded and continued.

(He corrected himself three times after, I believe...)

Reminder that @atthisarts.com is open to novel submissions through the end of this month.

Not pushing it bc I want people who want to work with us, but I think 2026 is going to be an important year.

Known authors also welcome if they want one novel in a place they trust not to censor them or fold.

I've been thinking a lot about how Vulcans were invented by men and how 21st century Trek has gone out of its way to show that their rationale for hiding (not controlling) emotion as a reason not to ignore ethics was always a lie.

So joyful this holiday eve, sitting with all the kids, they're playing games...

Vera got out their dice collection and is going through all the ones they got at Gen Con and I had to step away.

The cruelty that I can't take them again and that writers just bowed to it.

Where are their hearts.

I really, truly, hope writers see all the passion, energy, and results that keeps going into organizing against genAI and realize we do have the power to do that against:

- racism
- misogynoir
- misogyny
- abuse
- silencing via social isolation

All of which are *rampant* in genre.

I'm not joking around with this.

The work FIYAH has done over these years has influenced everything I've done. It's actually a fairly complex topic.

I think about the repetitive short-lived care for their efforts every time people get this fired up about genAI.

If you don't know what else to do, adopt the mindset:

Address Nothing without Addressing Racism.
December 23, 2025 at 2:38 PM
I would not personally agree to participate on any tech related idea / action teams for any organization unless they were also putting one together on racism and exclusion.

And from what I've seen, that sort of communicated individual stand is what is most missing from white authors.
