Forty years ago today: Tears for Fears hits #1 with “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”.

“I didn't really think anything of it, to be honest with you,” Roland Orzabal said of the arpeggiated guitar riff that opens the song. “But my wife at the time liked it. So I thought, Okay, maybe I'm wrong.”

RIP. I'm sure there are people who think he made misery look too beautiful, but that's assuming someone else would have been there to document it. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/23/a...

GREAT song!! Last year in college.
The great @suzannevega.bsky.social releases “Luka” as a single this weekend in 1987.

Upon hearing it, Prince (whom she never met) sent a letter. “‘Luka’ is the most compelling piece of music I’ve heard in a long time,” he wrote. “There are no words 2 tell you all the things I feel when I hear it.”

Nippon's offer was a good deal for USX. I hate Trump, but Biden's position on this issue was ridiculous.

President Trump's pause on infrastructure funding won't just negatively impact our roads and highways, it will devastate our neighborhoods.
Trump’s Infrastructure Funding Pause Impacts More than Highways
America’s infrastructure is crumbling beneath our feet. We must reorient our thinking, writes Deborah N. Archer.

Wow. All I can say is that I was in college a long time ago.
The Smiths release “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” 41 yrs ago today.

The song “is like an old school uniform,” Morrissey said. “People insist I wear it, but I'm really not that miserable. I'm not an unhappy person. Not in the least. I'm certainly very surprised and very pleased to still be here."

Trump just keeps on giving. Everywhere but here.
Mr. Tusk is seeking to slow a Trump-empowered tide of right-wing populism in Europe, and also restore judicial independence, media pluralism, women’s rights and civil debate that liberals say was severely undermined under Law and Justice.

Happy b’day “When Doves Cry” — released 41 yrs ago today.

Yeah, but you didn't vote for Kamala, so you really have nothing of value to say on this issue.
The next president has to do two things: 1) right the wrongs of Trump and go after those who broke the law and were corrupt. 2). Then spend time divesting power from the presidency and building real guardrails and passing laws like, “the president is not immune” etc.

And get the money out

Yet another source of outrage that I try to tamp down: it's a huge scandal that Dems covered up Biden's condition (remember Regan, BTW)... On the other side, there's a president who is in the process of lining his trash bin with the Constitution.
“This is also a reason why people who care the most about this country continue to abandon these media outlets. It is why CNN’s ratings are in the tank — especially Tapper’s, and why they hunger for truth tellers who aren’t trying to sell books...”
Dems Must Not Let Media Make 2026/28 About Biden
This is a trap for Democrats, because American voters simply don't care.

If you saw how Alcaraz played today, you might be wondering now.
Alcaraz beats Lorenzo Musetti 6-3 7-6

Carlos reaches the Rome final for the first time.

A lot of people were wondering what kind of shape he would be in coming back from injury.

✅8th Masters final
✅39th top 10 win
✅14-1 on clay in 2025

No one is wondering now.

Gross. If the Republicans could ban low income people from having kids, they would. Especially if we're talking about people of color.
The budget bill is not merely a transfer of wealth from poor to rich. It's also, in many ways, a transfer of wealth from young to old, and from future to past. That's because many of the “pay-fors” in this bill disproportionately hurt babies and children.
