In this paper, we exploit the bunching in income statistics in Victor Orban’s Hungary to back out the political cost of manipulating official statistics.
‼️🤯 Astonishing: Viktor Orbán’s gov’t very likely manipulated Hungary’s income stats in the late 2010s–early 2020s by inflating the number of households just above the poverty line, Valasz Online reveals.

After being alerted about possible misconduct, the I4R are reproducing published papers that use data from a specific NGO (GDRI). This thread releases the first 2 reports and provides more information about the work and responses/statements from authors journals and journals. 🧵
