the USWNT I fell in love with had major problems, among them being beige as hell, but the leadership of people like Pinoe and Becky was so powerful and had such an impact on me. I’m just so depressed we lost that, man. bleh.

super grateful this question was asked, wildly disappointed in the response
I asked Emma Hayes today:

How are the players in #USWNT camp taking in all that’s going on in Minnesota and nationwide?

How is she handling it with a squad that's not just younger than usual, but is missing many names who regardless of age might lead on this?

And how is she processing it herself?

I really need some of these journalists for legacy outlets to ask Emma Hayes and whatever players they get about whether any of this is of concern to them, and really push back if Emma gives that generic "We've got lots of different perspectives in our locker room" answer.

FWIW, Many McGlynn is sharing a lot of anti-ICE and signal boosting content to her Instagram story and is very publicly queer; some of the energy I’d love to see more of on USWNT

watching Sam Mewis and Becky talk about Minnesota… in some ways it’s been great to see the USWNT evolve but man I miss moral clarity and leadership rooted in justice

As my D.C. journo colleagues/friends have pointed out, Trinity Rodman's record deal wouldn't have happened without the Spirit community.

While sports continue to be dictated by balance sheets, it's a nice reminder of where women's soccer's soul lies. @theathletic.com www.nytimes.com/athletic/699...

A hugely important and hopeful story out of Minnesota. 3M, which had been the world's largest manufacturer of toxic #PFAS since 1950s, has officially gotten out of the business.

3M ends PFAS manufacturing on schedule
The Maplewood-based company announced in 2022 it would cease producing using the “forever chemical” in the span of three years, though it still expects to use third-party PFAS in some products.

For no reason at all: how does salt melt ice?

There is a layer of water above ice, which allows salt to dissolve into ions. Ions make it harder for water molecules to bond together into ice crystals.

This is called 'freezing point depression,' and no, SAD lamps don't help.🧵⬇️
