Hello, Bluesky! I'm trying this out with my own PDS. I'm not completely sold on this platform, but I do like that I can follow some people I've missed in the past few years of mostly being on the fediverse.
Uh oh, @techdirt.com is doing @jackjenkins.me dirty by calling him an "unexpected news source". Seriously, though, follow Jack. He's got really good insights on things like this.

Look, this isn't a good reason to hurt Kenvue. The fact that the company exists as a way for J&J to limit their exposure in talc and opioid lawsuites is a much better reason.

So it’s personal? B/c if you were a Black woman or transgender, Kirk would not imagine you having any role in the future of American politics.

It's extremely weird if you've never paid any attention to US politics. Abortion and same-sex marriage are just two recent examples where the federal government actively worked against an overwhelming majority opinion.

When you call everything unprecedented, it erases history.
It's incredibly weird that folks have convinced themselves that the Covid vaccines - which had an ~82^% take up rate - were unpopular.
Wow. New NBC poll finds 78% support vaccines, including 72% of independents and 67% of Republicans.

As I keep trying to argue, Democrats should polarize the shit out of the vaccine/public health debate. Make people take sides. It will split Republicans and MAGA.

Just a reminder that there's no reason to invoke Islamophobia for something that is very much a product of American Christianity.

The Taliban don't need to pull these mental gymnastics because their laws explicitly state that Afghanistan is an Islamic country.
White Christian Taliban shit right here.

Time to stop tiptoeing around it. These people are fanatics pursuing a Holy War. It’s a critical piece of the threat assessment that should inform our strategies. (Psst. They’re not just going to hand back power.)

The thing about the Equifax leak years ago is that smaller leaks like this just don't compare. Plus, the credit companies all funnel money back and forth for "monitoring" after these breaches, which are full of predatory auto-renewals. The result is that they MAKE money after breaches.
NEW: Credit reporting giant TransUnion has confirmed a data breach involving more than 4.4 million customers' personal information. TransUnion claims "no credit information was accessed" in the late-July breach, which it said involves its U.S. consumer support operations.

*IS* it getting under their skin, though?

Or do Democrats just think it is?
The so-called president tweets like this every day. And thinks it's a good look! His cult claps like trained seals. And thinks he's smart.

Newsoms trolling of Trump? Epic. Executed perfectly. LOVE how it's getting under Trumps skin. And Magats too!

I mean...yeah. This whole amendment sounds like a bunch of special interest carve-outs. The fact that most of our council cannot comprehend the follow-on effects of such large exemptions is an excellent point showing how they are not equipped for their jobs.
Rinck reiterates that "I do not think we should be exploring special carveouts in this legislation without a actual analysis of the full fiscal impact" of the exemptions, and says she'll propose an increase to the tax rate to offset these exemptions if they psas.

Counterpoint: tech companies rarely invent new tech

Source: over 20 years working in tech, including almost 17 years Amazon and Salesforce

Also, it's well-proven that age verification does not protect children. It only endangers privacy.
The EU is doing what is necessary to help kids. Tech companies invent new tech all the time so an age verification app is not a problem. And automatically having settings that protect kids accounts is also easy. Glad to see some people care enough to take on this major issue.

I'm not going to challenge Nelson's statement here, but it's pretty meaningless. In Seattle, you can also say that we can't allow more housing density because most of the comments are about trees. These both may be true, but they don't represent the actual BELIEFS of Seattlites.
Sara Nelson says she hopes this bill will deter people from tagging in Seattle in the future, and says she hears more complaints about graffiti from constituents across the city than about ANY OTHER ISSUE. "We do make a distinction between art and graffiti," she says.

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure there have been several cases that say you can't charge someone for liking a social media post.

I'm not fan of Hollingsworth (or, well, 8 of the 9 CMs), but this amendment makes sense.
Joy Hollingsworth offered an amendment that would gut one of city attorney Ann Davison's key stated goals for the bill by eliminating a provision that would allow Davison to prosecute and fine people who "encourage" graffiti by filming people making graffiti or liking graffiti posts online.

I worked dispatch at an HVAC company in semi-rural NC one summer. We would absolutely bump people off the schedule when the elderly or disabled called because their AC was out. It was a standard part of the script to ask if they relied on the AC for their health.
Many disabled folks rely on powered devices to keep them alive. The extreme heat of summer often causes power outages, which kills disabled people.

This is a downstream devastation of climate change - and why climate justice is so important.

It’s the marginalized who will suffer the most.
People with disabilities will often be impacted harder & faster by extreme weather events.

Check on the disabled people in your life. See if they have contingency plans and include them in emergency preparedness.

The last power outage nearly sent me to hospital 🧵
