Me: clears off a bit of counter space.
My family: we’ll see about that.

Besides being mostly soulless and empty, I think one of the worst things about the reboot/sequel culture is how it stops the younger generation from having their own stuff. I think that’s why Minecraft was so huge. It wasn’t a worn out boomer, gen x property. It was theirs.

If you have access to @netgalley.bsky.social , you should definitely read @dwgillespie.bsky.social Delacorte Press GRIN. It's everything my students want in a horror book. Arcade game haunted by the spirit of a serial killer that possesses those who play it? Perfect.

Occasionally, I take a step back and just marvel at how companies are pissing away their good will chasing AI. Google used to be the gold standard for how to find an answer. Now, the top result is almost certainly going to be wrong.

I love being a writer, but there’s this maddening split between what you can and can’t control. All of the work is self-driven, but all results exist in this nebulous cloud of “maybe”.

Will the contract go through?
Will the book sell?
Will the film rights happen?
Maybe.

I always love stumbling across old notes I’ve left for myself in manuscripts. Occasionally, you’ll discover something profound, and other times you get stuff like this:

“Insert something scary”

The first big horror movie of the year is THE MONKEY! I enjoyed it, but you need to understand going in that this is more comedy than horror. I laughed out loud a few times, and though it slips a bit on the last third, it’s worth the price of admission for seeing some hilariously over the top kills.

SNL can be hit and miss, but when it hits, there’s nothing else like it. I started watching with my dad in 1989. It was one of the first good memories i have after my parents split up. I started watching with my kids in probably 2015 or so. I’m sure I’ll be watching when I’m a grandpa.

It’s here! I’m excited for everyone to read Pineda and Luisa’s adventure.
When I wrote WFFTS, I never imagined its message of embracing identity and finding community in the face of oppression would be so relevant. I hope this story will give comfort as much as it entertains. bit.ly/3VDmutK #kidlit
