When my current cat Meg arrived with her late sister, I was warned they were very scared and nervous. I just released them in the living room, lied down on the sofa and fell asleep.

They were roaming the room when I woke up, got back under the sofa and I let them be.

Now Meg is a bellyrub addict.

#wintergames So Lindsey Vonn's egotrip has ended and unfortunately she seems badly injured.

But I am not a fan of this. She was and is taking away attention (and sponsoring) from the current crop of sporters, is directly affecting the race and all the news will be about Vonn anyway.

I think the UK Metascience Unit is doing a Streisand Effect with the mass email and dodgy intentions.

At least editors of journals can send out personal emails and leverage thwir contacts. Here it just makes me want to warn my colleagues not to engage.

Very poor choice of UKRI to fund this.
I think it's connected to the project described here: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

"UK Metascience Unit has partnered with... RAND Europe; the Sussex Science Policy Research Unit; and...Elsevier, to launch MetaNIC — a competition to produce and validate indicators for scientific novelty"
Could a novelty indicator improve science?
A competition to develop computational approaches to detect ‘novelty’ in published papers will help metascientists to study how out-of-the-box research changes the scientific landscape.

The core British values like racism, xenophobia, thinking that an "expat" is different from a migrant, hooliganism, class culture etc?

I have lived in the UK for >20 years. There are a lot of good British people, none of them flagshaggers or similar types.
Keir Starmer attacks the racism of Reform and Matt Goodwin but then adds that "Britain has also been let down by a mindset on the left of politics that is too slow to defend core British values"
