I can’t seem to picture it.” Felix throws him a murderous look as he steps into the shower and shuts the door behind him. “Try it,” Sylvain calls over the sound of the water. “Please, I wanna hear it. Say I’m your little 35-year-old sugar baby.” Through the glass door, Sylvain sees Felix shake his head. Maybe it’s a trick of the steam, but Sylvain thinks he looks a bit fond, too. Sylvain huffed a laugh, ducking low under a branch. “Felix, we can’t kill Mercedes’ brother.” “I know,” Felix said seriously. “He burned me a Linkin Park CD once.” “Oh!” Mercedes said, with sudden recognition. “Oh, that explains it. He gets testy when his blood sugar is low. Don’t you, Emile?” Jeritza nodded. “I get testy,” he repeated, his voice like the sound of a door opening in a haunted house. There was a crinkle as Mercedes retrieved a packet of peanut M&Ms from her fanny pack. “Here.” Jeritza, the man who had very nearly decapitated Felix an hour beforehand, carefully tipped back an entire mouthful of M&Ms and crunched down on them at once. “You know,” Sylvain said, “of anyone in the world to face down a homicidal ex-Hot Topic employee with, I’d choose you, every time.” “Hm,” Felix said. “I’d choose Megatron.” “Man, what the fuck,” Sylvain said, on a disbelieving laugh. When he laid down, he left room for Felix to crawl in beside him. Felix pressed himself to Sylvain’s back. Probably he wouldn’t sleep, but it was a nice thought, the pair of them, and tactically useful, too: to be there for someone, to have someone there.

people advise against them pretty much universally but i love writing a little dream sequence specifically a nightmare… once you’ve exhausted all the realistic ways to be mean to a character now you can do it fantastically also. and the culprit is their own brain yay
