This is the latest addition to my on-going project on Confucian Ethics of Technology. In this paper, I move beyond the normative resources in the early Confucian to Neo-Confucian philosophy. Looking forward to sharing the ideas at CEACOP.

Philosophy Eats AI
AI’s ability to create value rests on the philosophy determining how and what it learns.

If true, this spells the end of policy-relevant philosophy and ethics, not to mention Tech Ethics and related topics (more so if it applies to humanities and social sciences funding agencies).

Hey folks! I have a chance to promote new books on AI/tech that deserve attention this year. Looking for books that will offer a critical or novel perspective, not empty hype, and that are engaging for non-academics as well as researchers. Anything w/release date before August. What do you suggest?

Philosophy and science fiction syllabus for the 2nd round of the classs! Two big differences to other Phil+sci-fi syllabi: it's for upper division students, not intro; no pairing with 'normal' philosophy readings, just using the SFF as philosophical texts. Very discussion focused

Enjoy and let us know what you think!

This is funny because I was recently marveling at how much knobs/dials on appliances rock. Especially when they have some weight/resistance - they tell your body you’re doing a thing. Incredibly physically and mentally satisfying compared to anything I have to do by tapping on an app
I don't want my fridge to have a camera or Wi-Fi. I don't want my dishwasher to be smart. I don't want my washing machine to text me.

In fact, I kinda miss knobs and dials and knowing big appliances would last 20 years and could still be repaired.
