This still completely blows my mind. One of the great moments in rock/pop.

I’ll be putting longform tracks on Bandcamp as a way of documenting experiments and ideas, without the soul destroying/futile fine tuning and tweaking normally involved with how I make an ‘album’.

So here goes with the imaginatively titled ‘long-form #1’.

I had been contemplating no longer releasing any music. For me it seems like a painful and futile activity releasing/promoting ‘albums’.

The joy is all in the making & doing not the publication.

However, I’ve decided to release longform ideas, taking Jim O’Rourke’s Steamroom as inspiration.

Just finished Mark Kermode/Jenny Nelson’s ‘Surround Sound’. Marvellous stuff. Nice to see my obsession with Eiko’s Drive My Car is shared by Mark. Also great to see the prominence of some of my favourites - Hildur, Jonny G, Blanck Mass, Clint Mansell and others - alongside the old legends.

Absolutely loving Everything We Do Is Music by Elizabeth Alker. Despite being familiar with most of the artists discussed this book digs deep (enough) and constantly reveals new and interesting ideas and connections. The chapter on Pauline Oliveros is fantastic. Inspiring me to keep muddling on.

If you’re in the South Yorks area here’s advance notice of Barnsley artist John Ledger’s upcoming exhibition in January. I was fortunate to be asked to play a small part in the sound design for the film/tape John made for the exhibition. Much recommended

Exhibition: Straight A's - John Ledger
The Straight A’s exhibition offers a deeply personal look into the adult life of Barnsley born artist, John Ledger, told through five powerful themes: Anxiety, Anorexia, Alcohol, Ageing, and Art.

My [retreat] colleague Sam Horton has released a couple of tracks to accompany his current exhibition ‘In Memoriam’ at Frontier Gallery 07/11/25 - 12/01/25.

Much recommended if you dig atmospheric darker ambient stuff.

So somebody at Apple actually thought that Liquid Glass thing looked good and signed off on it?

Really hoping the new Park Chan-Wook is showing somewhere nearby in January. Absolutely loved Decision to Leave and this looks up there with it.

Still thinking about that amazing Dirty Three show last Wednesday. So glad I eventually got round to seeing them.

Do these FA Cup games go straight to pens or has Infantino given Tr*mp the responsibility of settling things with a thumbs up/down like Caligula?

Never thought I’d look fondly back on the Blatter years.

Repost for the Bluesky afternoon shift.

If noisy, droney, feel-bad ambient is your sort of thing then you’ll be ‘thrilled’ to hear I have new music on Bandcamp.

For anyone that might be interested, I have some new music available on Bandcamp.

Noisy, droney, electronic instrumental stuff if that’s your thing.

After sitting on it for 6 months wondering whether there was any point releasing any more music I’ve gone for it and uploaded a new album to Bandcamp ready for publishing tomorrow.

If this seems like an underwhelming piece of promo I can only apologise.

I hope someone out there enjoys the music.

Waited a long time for a chance to see Dirty Three and they didn’t disappoint. A completely unique experience. Wonderful. Spent most of the evening in awe of Jim’s drumming.

Bold statement - I know Bringing it all back home, Highway 61 & Blonde on Blonde are all incredible but I’d listen to Hejira before any of them.

Andrew Telling’s video tour diary of Stars of the Lid’s 2016 European tour. Previously only available via 1 min YouTube clips.

@lippykidmusic.bsky.social and I were lucky enough to attend Manchester. It was just the greatest thing.

Really loving these Seichō Matsumoto books. The downside is there are only 5/6 available in the UK - though another is set to be published next May.

The clarity of the writing coupled with how things patiently unfold really reminds me of Simenon.

It’s only a couple of years since I last read Sombrero Fallout. I’d almost forgotten how funny and clever and brilliant it is. So many beautiful lines and ideas. Re-reading it now is like reading it for the first time again.

If you’ve never read it - do yourself a favour.

Support for Protomartyr (who were great as usual) was a Leeds band called Honesty.

I have never seen such amazing visuals/projections from a band of that size. Simply stunning.

Next up on the re-reading of old favourites.

Richard Brautigan - Sombrero Fallout.

This was my first Brautigan but remains my favourite.
