So I have set out to virtually walk the length of New Zealand. Having already carried the ring to Mordor, this promises to be an improvement. Also I would LOVE to walk the Te Araroa Trail for real.

we fixed acid rain! we fixed the ozone layer! we beat polio! we’ve rescued scores of species from the brink of extinction! the despair many of us feel about climate change isn’t that it’s too big to fix. it’s that we know it is fixable but we’re being thwarted by greedy ghouls at every turn.
The other day I was like “you know something we heard a lot about as kids was acid rain, why don’t we hear about it anymore”

TURNS OUT we fixed it???
We! fixed! acid! rain! And we can fix climate change 🧪 www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-...

It’s beginning to look a lot like it’s dark and cold all the time and you freeze a lot on the bicycle in the morning. I have a student from Ghana who had the best rant last week about needing to wear so many clothes (layers! I feel like a fortress! I cannot move!). Sympathies & Empathy.

By now, I'm guessing most have already seen the news on our new project, Nightshade. Lots of artists sharing it, but here's the article from MIT Technology Review (tyvm to the wonderful Melissa Heikkila). This is a thread explaining Nightshade & its goals www.technologyreview.com/2023/10/23/1...
This new data poisoning tool lets artists fight back against generative AI
The tool, called Nightshade, messes up training data in ways that could cause serious damage to image-generating AI models.

@debbieohi.bsky.social you seem like you might be wise on this: do you have any recommendations for a to do list/task management app? The one I have been using for years was sold and is deteriorating and so I am looking for a new one … any recommendations?

Testing the mandatory alt text toggle tbh. The weather isn’t like this today, nor am I there.
