No one should lose their sight for demanding a voice.

We are all human beings and have a responsibility to each other. Thank you to those who speak out for others regardless of your politics/beliefs.

These are sombre days for those of us with family in Iran. Sometimes it's good to keep busy and there's nothing better than a good NHS Uveitis clinic with no DNAs 💯

6,000 ocular trauma cases at one Tehran eye hospital (Noor) alone over the last week.

God knows what these people are going through...

I haven't heard from my family in Iran, but just spoke to a fellow Ophthalmologist who briefly was able to use satellite.

The eye trauma cases, civilians indiscriminately targeted by regime forces with shotguns, is being under-reported.

Eye centres can't cope, they are broken.
Veiled by the #DigitalBlackout in Iran: regime security forces deliberately target protesters' eyes.

Over 500 severe eye injuries were reported in Farabi eye hospital over 48 hours. Thoughts with victims and the ophthalmology staff who are working in a healthcare crisis:

Finally being picked up by the media:

We already saw this awful practice of targeting civilians' eyes in the #WomanLifeFreedom protests

Eye centres like Farabi Eye Hospital are unable to cope:

Many hospitals in Iran are now inundated

Thinking of all of those who can't access healthcare now, and the clinicians too, especially with Ophthalmology centres such as Farabi Eye Hospital which are unable to deal currently with eye trauma 😥🫂

Disappointed, but not surprised, by the words and actions of Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society.

What an insult to the scientists who were killed under authoritarianism. To women, over the centuries, who had to combat misogyny in the sciences.

Congrats to the new Ophthalmology Cryptic Chrimbo Crossword Champion, Bridget Moran🏆

She edged out past winners Harpreet Kaur and Sarj Athwal in a particularly tough year. Bridget not only solved the cryptic clues but also navigated a typo and some abstract puzzle design on my part.

Eyes aren’t just for vision, they’re a data-rich “window” on systemic health and Optometrists can have a key role in unlocking this.

Here is my whistle-stop tour for #Optometry Today subscribers on the role Optoms can play in truly integrated care:
