Research has an economic return multiplier >1. So taxes don't even really pay for research. Research more than pays for itself, the taxes are just used to kick-start the positive economic cycle. The more money invested in research, the better the economy.

Have just spent 2 amazing days at the University of Birmingham, learning to isolate and characterise immune cells from human skeletal muscle tissue. We’re developing this protocol so we can undertake studies investigating role of immune cells in ageing muscle

Decided to go for a run yesterday. Didn’t plan the route, just went where it seemed sunniest. Was not a fast run, but most enjoyable this year.

There is significant variation in the progenitor cell response to exercise. A contributing factor to this variation is cardiorespiratory fitness. The fitter you are, the higher the absolute intensity you exercise at, resulting in more progenitor cell mobilisation
In this #ShortCommunciation article, @drmarkross.bsky.social (@heriotwattuni.bsky.social) et al. examine the influence of cardiorespiratory fitness on the magnitude of progenitor cell trafficking into and out of the blood!
