So. Are we still just going to completely ignore primary care when discussing health care? No statistics associated with primary care at all. It’s just the same old narrow view, that all health care is given by hospitals. And we wonder why so many people languish on waiting lists.
I can remember when it was a scandal if the 18 weeks wait figure dropped below 95%. It was only about 10-12 years ago.

The collapse in NHS performance under the last government was truly staggering, and went well beyond the pandemic.
New NHS England stats, via NHS Confederation:

"The total waiting list for procedures and appointments has dropped to 7.39 million in September, down from 7.41 million in August.

"The proportion of people waiting less than 18 weeks for care stood at 61.8% in September, up from 61.0% in August."

@teamlabouruk.bsky.social labour targets your local surgeries. Gives more funding with one hand, takes it back with the other in the form or NI. Voted for change. Labour may actually be the government that pushes GPs the way dentists have gone.

@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social just listening to the SRM. Can I just make it clear that when we talk about the millions out in the surgeries with the current contract, we weren't able to use any of it other than to pay the new NI charges labour refused to exempt us from.

@tomdolphin.bsky.social can I just thank you for how well you represented GPs just now at the SRM

This.

The 10yr plan does NOT have GPs are its heart. There remains significant concerns.
Support is appreciated but actions count most
Re: 10YP that means ICBs pushing back on Trusts to ensure GP influence @ N’hood level

Govt must listen to GPs to meet the 3 objectives
GPs can support principles whilst
pointing to where 10YP fails in described implementation.

@drkatie.bsky.social I was reading the email sent to the membership discussing the 10yr plan. “Partnership model will be retained where it works well” “my NHS GP AI tool guiding patients”, coupled with no mention of GPs having a leadership/central role, signals a very worrying future for GP partners

@newsagents.bsky.social When the NHS is discussed publicly, it’s mainly a discussion on hospitals. GP surgeries do 70-80% of all health care. Health care given by a GP is far more complex and not just the odd minor thing you want to check. Things you used to only see a specialist for.
Already over 6000 Neighbourhood Health Centres in England

GP Practices have lost 20% real terms funding since 2016, if they hadn’t they would be better able to provide the care patients need
Still 31m appts/month

Fund GP practices properly & they’ll do the rest with less funding & quicker

@bma.org.uk I don't understand how we are happy to accept a deal that is different and get capped. Why are they happy to shell out to private companies whilst GPs and their staff get pennies for doing far more. Our staff get the brunt of this daily, system not working and GP a good place to vent.
Exactly

This is the same deal GPs work to, unlimited work for capped funding

But worse 20% less funding and 20% more work

If private providers manage to change the rules here, GPs should do the same

I just think we need to take a moment to consider the big overriding issue of NI. It’s the DoH and the treasury at odds. They say a lot of good things but they are also planning on taking 1000s from NI. The BMA is rightly celebrating their work but this aspect with NI is not resolved.
While this is good news, it is only going to be felt if the NI issue is addressed. NI changes are comparable to giving with one hand and taking with the other. I cannot see any mention of this. It was send back from lords but Labour peers voted against the amendment. Why are the BMA accepting this?

@bma.org.uk @drkatie.bsky.social @teamgp.bsky.social There’s a concern that momentum is starting to slip, is there any info available on how collective action and GP contract talks are going?
February 20, 2025 at 4:02 PM
@drkatie.bsky.social well done Katie and her team. The recent letter from @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social is certainly a step in the right direction and shows that collective action has shown just how much GP surgeries do for a fraction of the cost. If secondary care and NHSE can now get in board

#teamGP #primarycare Does anyone in the west or south Yorkshire know any local ENT consultants? Trying to arrange a review for my mum.

This feels well meant, but also very conflicting. We are a valued part of the NHS, yet we are also not part of the NHS, and will be taxed heavily. We are a priority and yet we will be taxed in to oblivion. GP contract talks will be interesting. #primarycare #teamGP @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social

Very, very common. As part of collective action, you can reject the rejection. Its so ridiculous to say that out loud, but its where we are and you've seen the patient and you have referred. Worrying thing here, having very little sight of the patients notes, it was still felt safe to reject.
I know there can be frustrating behaviour on both sides of the 1ry/2ry care interface, but I just need to vent about this.

An urgent specialist referral was sent early in the year. Patient got a letter saying they’re on the waiting list and the referral is still active on the e-referral system 1/13

#PrimaryCare #GeneralPractice #teamgp Do any of your GP surgeries take on responsibility for providing bowel prep for 2WW scopes? We seem to have issues in our area where patients don't get them in time, and ICB looking to ask GPs to take it on. Wonder how this works in other areas
